Draisaitl had 51 points (not assists) in his sophomore season (not rookie).

I think the Calgary bias is to look for bust signs way too quick. He didn't finish off strong last season, but it's his second year. If he can get a little faster he'll really take off, I bet.
|
My question was posed not on the supposition that Draisaitl is a failed prospect. He is a good player, and I think he will be fine in the long run. My question was posed regarding his role on that team, especially now with Hall gone. I think it will take more time and prove to be much more difficult for him to progress without a seasoned scorer like Hall to play with, and I think he and Lucic are too slow to play together. I will not be surprised to see him take a step back next year, and I think that another 50 point season is unlikely. He'll get there eventually, but this summer's changes have not helped him at all.

His role will be number 2 centre eventually, and #3 to start the year, which he'll be just fine at.

Who wins the fight? Engelland vs Lucic? Hope to see at least one this year!

Engelland will hold his own. They'll have a couple of draws or split decisions. Engelland rarely looks like he's even trying in fights anymore. He'll have to try again Lucic.

I am extremely confused regarding the comments about Draisaitl's foot speed as of 2015-16. Moved pretty well and was their most impressive player not named McDavid when given open ice to skate as far as moving at pace with the puck and making decisions. No doubt skating was an issue in his draft year but he's well beyond that.

One issue though is is clear how much work it is for him to get going. Gets tired out it looks like

Draisaitl fixed his skating. Kid isn't slow anymore, not at all.

His first steps and acceleration were still not great last year. That's always been the problem.

Yeah, he looked a lot better in this regard last year. I don't see it as a problem. He is a better skater than Monahan.

On one of the sites I regularly go too.
Lucic - RNH - Pakarinen
Maroon - McDavid - Eberle
______ - Draisatl - Yakupov
Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian

I am interested to see how Draisaitl plays this year without Hall to help him.
Was great when McDavid was injured and he was playing with Hall - didn't look as good the rest of the time.
Quote:
- With Hall: 34 points, 879 minutes, 2.3 points/hour
- Without Hall: 3 points, 160 minutes, 1.1 points/hour
|
Here is a great article on it.

He's improved, no doubt about it. But don't get carried away.

The already fought once in 2013. Looked like a draw to me.
Glad we have Engelland. Lucic isn't a 'goon' of the likes of McGrattan and some others who live by a code. Lucic is a POS cheapshot guy. I would rather they have Gazdic from an intimidation standpoint, as at least he doesn't go around headhunting and taking cheapshots.
Lucic gets rocked too in fights. Prout obviously, but Erskine and even Orr (who is smaller) won their respective fights against him. I know I am fogetting some as well.
Point is, Lucic is a tough guy who can legitimately fight 'goons'. He is a skilled player that can put the puck in the net. I love guys like this. Problem with him is, he is absolutely dirty and will take cheapshots.
I know of one thing - I really like Engelland on the team. I have a feeling by season's end, I will totally love Engelland. Bollig tries - and I am betting under Gulutzan, that he will be able to 'try' more often, but he can't handle Lucic. He can handle anyone else on the Oilers though, now that they got rid of Gazdic.

If Bollig dresses he would be a better trade off. 4th line winger taking off a 1 or 2 nd line winger. Better that then short one D. Bollig's fighting hasn't been good lately though. Can't even beat Dorsett or Martin.

I looked up Lucic on HockeyFights.com and he only had 3 fights all of last season. One was against the Flames (Bollig) and two were against the Oilers (Nurse & Maroon).
