Because we as a society don't have enough money to go pad the entire world with blankets to make it safe.

The only time I said this was when we had are second kid and our two year old was crazy. I said man babies are easy. I can't believe we thought this was hard because a two year old is so much worse.

Is this actually a positive change? Is a kid more like to drown because he climbs the fence and someone can't get to him in time or another alligator incident. Will people start feeding the alligators through the fence because it's safe?

I'm not sure that the knee jerk reaction here of adding a fence actually makes anything more safe.

The fence I would agree is a knee jerk reaction. I do wonder if it was done to gain favour with the traveling public and the media. Maybe even to avoid future lawsuits.

I have always wondered why they didn't have warning signs about Gators attached to the no swimming signs.

It always takes a tragedy to get anything done, from deflector fences around pillars, to grab wires down the middle of HWY 2 it takes someone to loose a life before the almighty dollar is spent protecting people.

It wasn't money for Disney as likely they simply didn't like the optics of signs warning of gators in the water but I bet they wished they put them up now.

This will cost them upwards of $10 million, and that's only if the family settles out of court.

Disney's liability, prior knowledge questioned

Quote:
Citing “an insider,” TheWrap, a media industry publication, reported Wednesday that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was aware of an ongoing problem of guests feeding alligators and had ignored staff requests to put protective fences in place. The Polynesian Village Resort is adjacent to the Grand Floridian and a short walk along the Seven Seas Lagoon, where the alligator attacked the boy.

The Grand Floridian is Disney’s starship resort in Orlando and guests are often invited to the beach to watch movies and fireworks. Disney may have been concerned about scaring guests with overly explicit signs about animals, Branson says. “Think about the danger of saying this pond contains wild animals that can eat you or your children,” he says. “But can you physically fix the problem? If you can’t swim there, why put a beach there? The sign says one thing, but the appearance says another.”

David Shiner, an attorney and managing partner Shiner Law Group in the Miami area, says the state’s law doesn’t require an owner of a land to anticipate the presence of harm from wild animals unless the owner either owns the wild animal or introduced it. “They didn’t own the alligator,” he said. “But if they know people are going into these areas, Disney has a duty to warn them if they knew of the presence of alligators.”
