Default Flames 2014 Summer Development Camp July 4 - July 9

30 mins until group B hits the ice, we're now laying in the grass outside. The goal was to tire out the kids, but all I succeeded at was tiring myself out.

Klimchuk seems to be the forgotten man in our prospect pool. But looks like he as great potential. Probably 2nd line upside.

Having seen him in Charlottetown a number of times, I agree with you about the quickness. He has the best glove hand of any junior goalie I've see for years. He's refining his technique and constantly trying to improve. I suspect he'll be our goaltender in 4 or 5 years (and I like Ortio and company also).

They should change the CHL-NHL agreement to the kid just has to play 3 full seasons in the CHL to be eligible for the AHL post draft.

3 seasons in that league is more than fair enough IMO.

I think it's fine as is. You have to allow the CHL teams to market these players when they're in their prime in Juniors.

If anything they should increase the draft eligible age by a year. Makes scouting a bit easier and more ready players for the NHL as well.

Let Klimchuk dominate the WHL.
Let Bennett dominate the OHL.
Let McDonald dominate the QMJHL.
Let Gillies dominate the NCAA.

Before the week gets into high gear for Development camp, I'd like to thank all the posters who have and will be keeping the rest of us up to date. This is where CP shines.

Klimchuk looks like the guy who could play anywhere in the lineup - whether it be the offensive catalyst on the 3rd line or the perfect complement to your top players on the top two lines. Add in the fact that he is a power play specialist and that makes him extremely valuable.

He could definitely fill that Sharp, Kunitz role on a top team.

I think Poirier has higher upside though - he could be a legitimate first line winger.

When Klimchuk got drafted the TSN guys were tossing around Steve Larmer as a comparable. As a Hawks fan back in the day (massive Belfour fanboy when I was a kid) I consider that very high praise for a player.
