Right! I remember him being ranked somewhere between 8-10, and Islanders selecting him at 5. Something like that anyways. Getting selected at most 5 spots is hardly 'way off'.

I'm sorry but your statement on Iginla is not correct. He's created his own offence for years.

Sven, Nino and Wortherspoon...now all we have to do is trade for Rattie, draft Petan and hope Jones falls to 6th and we'll have our own Winterhawks crew.

Never been sold on Nino. He couldn't even make a horrific NYI squad rushed or not. I would never in a hundered years give up a player of quality like Cammy for that. If you can get him for next to nothing, then ok- you start throwing out Cammy or first rounders from this year and I say pass- big time !! Some players get drafted in the later rounds and turn out great really soon or even after a couple of years and some get drafted high and their production and learning curve go downhill and dont live up to their pick position.

Also, pick up a 2nd round pick and take Bjorkstrand as well as pull off a trade for Pouliot.

Draft Pick
|
I would do:
Nelson, niño 15th overall for 6th overall and max reinhart
That would still leave us with 3 first round picks but it'll give us two really good young players
Imagine the flames after the draft
Niño
Nelson
Knight
Domi/ shinkaruk/ lazar/ horvat @15
Zaradov/ morriesy/ morin/ hagg @22
Zykov/ Erne/ Rychel/ klimchuk @28
6 prospects of quality ... So we get quantity and quality in this draft.
It would probably put our prospect pool in the top 6
Next year we can look for our SUPERSTAR in mcdavid, reinhart, nylander
Imagine a line of. Sven - Nelson - niño Size, skill and speed
I should wake up now

No thanks. Drafting sixth could potentially be more worthwhile than the accumulation of Niederreiter, Nelson, and whoever is available at #15. The Flames need to be getting blue-chip talent in return for any dealing involving their top-pick, and I don't think either of the Islanders prospects qualifies.

I've been wanting to get quality depth, but we need to pick in the top 6 as each of the 6 guys would normally be a top 3 pick. It's pretty much imperative, even though I do like Nelson and Niedereitter.

There has been growing concern about Niederreiter's development since last season. Although the young prospect appeared in 55 games for the Islanders, he was used in a limited role. He managed only one goal, causing many to feel he'd be better off playing with his junior club (since he was 19, he wasn't old enough to be in Bridgeport) and to speculate that the team could be keeping him around for cap purposes (i.e., his entry-level contract bonuses helped the team hover slightly above the cap floor).
During the lockout, Niederreiter began the year in Bridgeport and has flourished, leaving him and his camp baffled as to why he didn't get a chance to crack the Islanders' roster.
|
ESPN article
If true, then I don't blame him for requesting a trade. The Islanders felt it was worth potentially stunting his development and stalling his career for cap purposes. That's crazy for a top 10 draft pick.
Get out while you can kid.

I still think Nino is a solid young player with good potential. Last year he was ripping up the AHL for the first half and then quieted down.
He's the type of player you inquire about, but you don't pay high for. You try and get him at 50 cents on the dollar from where he was drafted before.
id be willing to give up a guy like Horak + something else.

I recall him being projected in mid first, and that was after his WJC coming out.

Hopefully the Flames inquire about Niederreiter since sometimes a change of scenery is all that's needed. I imagine the Flames are keeping Tangs and Cammi lined up to see if they can move up in the draft but after that if they still have those players they could make an pitch for Niederreiter. We do have some other assets we could offer.
