Hopefully if he picks up the phone it is not to try and acquire this overrated whiner.
Can't believe the Islanders were fooled into taking him 5th after an okay but wildly overrated WJHC.

As somebody above said, just kick the tires and see if you're even in the ballpark. If not, no harm done.

He hasn't shown a ton to indicate that he is a good hockey player at the moment and it seems there are plenty of options out there of guys that are both good hockey players with good attitudes.
Not sure what Sven can really vouch for since it has been 3 years since they played together.

Depending on the cost to get him, I'd rather have a prospect reclimation project than an old vet reclimation project, especially I ally the direction the flames are going

That's for sure. Niederreiter hasn't proven anything at the NHL level. Because if he had, he'd would be staying with the Islanders.

In the A this season. Not bad.. He didn't show much in half a season in the NHL prior to that but he was 18-19 then. Kind of hard to judge based on that and so early in his development.

What will make me happy on June 30:
Cammalleri for Niederreiter
Tanguay for 2nd on Draft
Drafting: Lindholm/Monahan, Zykov, Pulock

I believe they knew one another for a long time in Switzerland, and it was Nino that vouched for Baertschi to the Portland Winterhawks who then went and scouted him because of it, eventually getting him on their team. Not sure if they are 'best friends' or even that close, but the two have known one another for a while it seems.

If they are best friends then even less reason to ask Baertschi.
It isn't like he is going to say that his best friend is actually a d-bag whether he is or isn't.

I think there's a great chance of Nino coming here if the Isles start entertaining offers, and Feaster and co. have interest in his services. Sven's mentioned him many times, obviously the two still keep in touch and have a fair amount of history. Plus, as with Knight, the opportunity to play is a big attraction. Depends on the Isles' asking price.

Tanguay? Cammi? Both? Their choice.

True.
It is impossible for most fans to gauge whether or not someone is entitled or a punk without knowing him personally or having direct interaction with him.
However, many (or most) Islander and non-Islander fans think his development has been grossly mismanaged in NY. I just choose neither to praise him nor belittle him personally, but I would definitely hope that IF there is a bargain to be had, the Flames look into acquiring him.

If he can be had for either of those (preferably tanguay) and maybe a mid rounder, you take that deal straight to the bank.
As far as the attitude goes, it's pretty difficult to judge from afar. Not totally inconceivable that an organization with a reputation of mishandling situations mishandled this situation. He is young and can still learn. His skill is enough to take that chance.

Not bad... but not good either. I mean that's basically what Backs did in the AHL at the same age, except that Backs plays a more important position, and is possessing IMO a better two-way game (and had shown better at the NHL level even at that point).
At this point he's pretty much a project prospect whose had most of his ELC burned through, I'd put a call in but I wouldn't offer much.

From what I remember, Niederreiter had a pretty good World Championship, 5 goals and three assists in 10 games. This doesn't always transfer over to the NHL but it's a positive. I'd think he's ready for the NHL in some capacity.

I liked Nino as a top 10 pick and I still like him. He was simply rushed to the NHL. He was like a bull in juniors and wasn't as polished as some of the other prospects and had slow startup speed. He wasn't ready.
Now the question is whether the Islanders mismanagement of Nino has ruined him. For me, I didn't quite buy into the upside that some people projected of Nino. I saw him as a 20+g 50+ pt type who was a surefire NHL player and at worst I think he can still round out to be a solid 3rd line player in the NHL.

Islanders fans I've talked to have been happy with how he recovered. He does a lot of hitting and is one of the toughest forecheckers on the Sound Tigers. The biggest concern is still that he can't generate his own offence...like Iginla, he's simply a great finisher. When the entire team struggled, he couldn't pull them out himself.

Not really. He went in the area he was projected to go in.
