That's why the law is written the way it is, I imagine. They teach you in driver's ed to allow the pedestrian to clear the crosswalk because that is their interpretation of yielding to pedestrians (taking into account the purpose of the statute being to protect pedestrians). In practice, I would think officers have a fair amount of discretion in enforcing the law. Depends on the situation.

Example: If it was an empty street, with no traffic coming either way and you yielded to let a pedestrian cross, the officer would have to be having a pretty crappy day to give you a ticket.

This goes with what getbak said where people cross when theyre not supposed to. They do the "dont start walking signal" so they can clear the cars trying to turn.

Yes but he could still give you a ticket. Just like a cop could give you a ticket for going 51 in a 50 zone. Technically youre over the speed limit.

Just because most people dont adhere to it and most cops dont enforce doesn't mean its not the rule.

Disclaimer....I am not advocating the rule, just giving some perspective.

I know, I'm saying that it's not necessarily the rule. The TSA says you must yield to pedestrians crossing the road. It doesn't say what exactly that looks like or how yieldy you have to get.

why can't people just use common sense with the flashing hand. if i want to cross and the hand is flashing, i'll check to see if anyone wants to turn. if they do, i wait, if it's clear then i'll bolt across

Like kunkstyle says, Windsor Plywood is a solid bet. I've never noticed pre-formed furniture legs at Lee Valley.

However, another option is Ikea:

How did I not think that Ikea would sell this. I bought the GD thing at Ikea. Classic case of can't see the forest for the trees.

Advice?

Hey, I think the best question to ask yourselves is whether them telling you there is a "higher than normal" chance of developing DS or one of the other chromosomal abnormalities will change anything for you. Even if they say there is an increased risk, this will result in them offering you further tests which carry a higher chance of miscarriage and to what end? If you both plan on seeing it through no matter what, why add the stress?

Of course, if you are going to be stress cases without it... maybe ruling out issues is the right choice?

This sounds like the same principle by which NHL referees officiate.

Question: Is there a better way to dispose of torn jeans beside just dumping them in the garbage? I heard some places can recycle them and turn them into insulation, but I couldn't find a place in town that does this.

Doesn't anybody use old clothes for house/garage cleaning rags anymore?

The problem is I already have quite a few old t-shirts and jeans that I use as rags, but there's only so much I'm willing to stockpile.

The Rogers radio app hasn't worked in a long time. help please!
I tried 960 today via my "US" connection (both on my laptop and my iPhone using TuneIn, just like before), and it appears to work fine again for me.

Send me a PM as I'd be interesting in helping troubleshoot your problem instead of using the "quick question" thread. I know what it is like to follow a team from another country! My BBC station that was blocked for the Olympics is still blocked, but I read somewhere that it is due to the Para Olympics going until September 9th or something like that.

Any thoughts?
So I did some digging and this is what I came up with:

It used to be that you needed to wait until they had crossed fully on a 2 way street, or had crossed past the meridian on a divided highway. This changed, as best I can remember, along with a bunch of other laws and penalty increases, when Ed Stelmach became Premier. I can't find anything to back that up for sure. Likely it was 4-5 years ago, give or take?

From canlii.org:
Quote:
Yielding to pedestrians
41(1) A person driving a vehicle shall yield the right of way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk.
This means they once they have been given the right of way, and exercised that right by leaving the sidewalk and entering the road at a crosswalk, you need to let them go first. Once they have passed, you can go. Note: There is also a separate penalty for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian who is requesting to cross, either through an outstretched hand or, I presume, traffic crossing signals.

As mentioned a few posts back, you should wait for them to be far enough passed that you couldn't possibly hit them if they fell or turned around suddenly, since that would be putting them in danger.
