Maybe it was the fact that Erixon has been telling the Swedish media that he plans on playing for Calgary all through out last year? Also Erixon was probably regularly meeting with representatives of the Flames (scouts, development coaches etc.) all last year and didn't give any indication that he wanted out.
From Feaster's press conference, to me it was clear that Erixon didn't want to play for the Calgary Flames.
Only question is, was this something that was planned by Erixon and his agent Jay Grossman? or was this something that came out of opportunity?
If its the former, Erixon misled the Flames for a very long time.

FWIW, we got a better return for Tim Erixon than we once got for our all-time leading scorer at the time, Kent Nilsson.

Is that the reason Erixon chose NYR over the flames - or is it more that his father played there?
What we learned today is you do a damn thorough pre-draft interview with each player you may draft.

Sounds like Tim Erixon's camp used to all of the past issues the Flames had against them. Like when Flames sent down Backlund due to cap issues and also with all the NMC clauses they have. Those NMC/NTC clauses just continue to burn us

Wow. Erixon and his agent thought cap space would be an issue down the road?
Have we even committed to anyone besides Gio in 3 years?
Ridiculous. They've been playing all along.

Feaster on the radio...
- Erixon felt the Flames don't give young players a chance
- Erixon concerned about the cap, and 4 high paid defenseman on the team
- all these concerns came late, basically Erixon eff'ed the Flames over. FU Tim.

Glad Tim Erixon is not a Flame. Winning teams don't have babies like him.

According to Feaster, that was a pretty big factor.

Deep, I know...

As it turns out, that was one of the issues Erixon had. (From Feasters mouth)

It seems as though they had the list prepared and were not going to be swayed by anything. I think that they were formed to try and rationalize their actions and take heat off of the kid for wanting to go elsewhere.

Kinda silly to think the Flames didn't interview Erixon before the draft isn't it? It is even more silly to think that Erixon was going to come out and say "don't draft me because I'll just screw you over so I can get into the Rangers" in said interview.
The bigger lesson learned is that the Flames need to get these contracts signed sooner and read between the lines a bit more if a player is avoiding signing said entry contract for any reason and deal with it immediately. Erixon could have been traded at any point over the last two years and I doubt this is the best we could have gotten for him.
The other lesson we learned is that Grossman is a snake but Feaster should have known that already from the Khabibulin negotiations.

What a bunch of b.s excuses. No cap space for a three year entry level contract? at which point a bunch of our big contracts will expire?
Have fun in the big apple you donkey.

On the plus side, it sounds like Horack is pretty stoked to be with the Flames

To be fair history shows this to be the case, but with a new GM at the helm this could (and by god has to) change. Besides team isn't making playoffs so only have old vets on team is pretty dumb.

Well that has happened a few times (though it was never a big deal). The concerns Erixon had, its been mentioned here many times before.
None the less... the Erixon camp did not reveal their cards and did not negotiate in good faith. It sounds like they really eff'ed over the Flames.
