Why? It's one player. Flames have six.

Id rather tie 9.5 to Nylander than 9.5 to Lindholm.
Some guys can just handle the moments and you cant put value on that.

Just listening to the Jeff Marek radio show and the guest surmises Treliving likes Zadorov and Tanev. Just some tidbit.

Part of the job. Almost every GM goes through it at some point. It's Calgary, Ottawa and Toronto's turn.

Lots of teams have pivoted already.

So we have no answer from Lindholm who wants to see the direction the team takes with these other pending ufas, who we can’t trade because of a crappy market. But we can’t improve the team because we have no cap space because money is too tight. And we are still left without an answer from him. So it’s a standoff.
Had we moved hanifin for picks to Pittsburgh, we would have at least had cap room and would have allowed us to take advantage of a tight market with the remaining ufas. But Pittsburgh goes and gets graves which means any potential deal would be money in, money out, which still doesn’t help us to improve the team.
Backlund should have some market a c is a premier position but crickets on that front as well
Is it too early to start drinking?

Granted, I didn't watch Toronto all that much last year, but when I did Nylander seemed pretty one dimensional and would be invisible for much of the game with flashes of brilliance. He seems to be paid appropriately right now for what he brings.

I know the comparables suggest that makes sense, but from a player utility standpoint, that doesn't make sense at all.
Two way centres capable of scoring a point per game, should have more value than one dimensional point per game scoring wingers.

So are we seeing some type of trade market correction or these low ball offers because of the flat cap and GMS loving the 2023 draft?

Correct. But frankly it's probably because most players have down days where they don't play at 100%, and it was exaggerated that he was lazy. I think he instantly becomes the #1b with Huberdeau. But that's more for a lack of superstars on this team. It doesn't mean he's worth $10M, but 6 x $8 is appealing and right about where he should be.

Success seems to come from strength up the middle. If only Nylander was a C.
It's pretty hard to be competitive with two wingers getting paid $10.5 and $9.5 respectively, especially when it would mean your #1 center is Kadri.

Having 2 high priced wingers and no number 1 center just doesn't work. Unless we think Kadri is now the #1

Seriously should the Flames be trading a first? I think we should be patient; Other opportunities will open up at a later time when we see what this team can do and what our needs are.

No, there was just a line from the guest that Treliving has liked Tanev and Zadorov, but no connection in their conversation to Nylander. Just saying they needed better defensive presence now that their offensive defensemen was taken care of.

Hanifin to Bruins for a 1st, Lysell and Grzelyck (Only expendable Bruin defenseman without a NMC/NTC) - this is the lowest offer I'd accept from the Bruins
Zadorov, lower of the 2024 1sts, Zary for Nylander (extended) - This is the maximum price I'd pay
Flames would still need to trade one of Backlund, Tanev, or Grzelcyk with limited to no salary in return in order to be cap compliant for the upcoming season.
Extend Lindholm.
Your "core" moving forward is:
Huberdeau, Lindholm, Kadri, Nylander, Weegar, Andersson, Markstrom. Hope young players can develop and supplement and replace the core eventually.

I like Nylander plenty. I think some are discounting him a bit based on “fourth option” and perhaps memories of his dad. Nylander drives play and was good in the playoffs.
Having said that, I can’t see Toronto as a trading partner. Both parties need to shed cap and not add. It would require a third party to retain salary on both sides to make it work. Would be very difficult.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
