But unlikely. We certainly would not pay him $1.6m to be an assistant, and I don't see him taking a pay cut.

Is that done for sure?
It is also what I expected to happen, just haven't heard it anywhere for sure or not.

Improving the PP must be at the top of Treliving's list in regards to his hiring decision.
Carolina this year was 22nd on the PP and 24th in PK. If Peters really is Tre's guy, that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

But GG was Brent Sutter 2.0
That would make Peters Brent Sutter 3.0

I assume the mediorcrity will continue and whats the point anymore. Peters won't get this team any closer to being a division winner and we will continue in our middling to poor performance as a franchise.
Honestly, not throwing as much money as needed to at least get AV and Sutter in the room for an interview is mind boggling for a GM who is all about the process.
|
Exactly you assume...there is no guarantee AV or Sutter get the team anywhere
To say FU to the GM because he didn't get hire the guy you wanted is dumb. IF Peters is the guy it sounds like he was in high demand (more so than Sutter who I voted for) I will at least give the guy a shot.
Babcock is supposedly the best coach in the league....he won with a stacked team, was dead last with a bad one, now loses in the first round with a decent team. You can't just point to a coaches record and assume.

In the case of the Flames I believe it was partially due to how GG constructed the lineup. Some of our best offensive skill is young players like Bennett, Tkachuk and Jankowski. Tkachuk was kept on what should be a shutdown line IMO. Bennett and Jankowski for the most part struggled with confidence and were rarely played with our best offensive weapons. You throw Tkachuk with Jankowski and/or Bennett and I think that helps those players break out and get confidence. Confidence can be key for a streaky scorer like Bennett. GG never made a successful second scoring line. He kept Tkachuk on a checking line and set up the 3rd line to mostly fail by putting a grinder like Hathaway on it

The process didn't seem like much of a process this time around at all.
All i am saying is that if your process didn't allow you to get an interview with either of the top two available coaches then its not a very thorough process.

Depends. If Dundon gave him a million to cut bait, it may have been worth it to Peters to say OK and take his chances elsewhere. Its going to be a complete circus in Raleigh for a while and he may just have wanted out.
really curious to me is who is willing to take that job now knowing that the guy with no experience in the league is calling all the shots now.

Yeah from what my source tells me. This settlement was needing completion before he could announce his resignation.
To that other post you quoted about Lebrun I think and that Calgary got permission yesterday. I'm 99% sure he's pulling that out of his *ss. My source was 100% he had 2 offers from Canadian teams in hand. I can't recall when I posted that, Monday? It's possible that neither weren't Calgary, but there's no way they toss GG aside without knowing where BP is headed. Like I said, I'm not 100% it was the Flames offering 1 of those 2 contracts, but I'd place my bets on my info before Lebruns based on all the other smoke around it.

Pure speculation. We the fans, and the media, have absolutely no clue what has gone on behind the scenes. Or for how long.

He said he didn't know much about Peters, but he also said that the Carolina players tuned him out this season; that he lost the dressing room. If the latter is true, that's worrisome.

Sure, but nothing indicates to me that Dundon would do that either.
I mean, these are possibilities, but remote ones, I think.

That is certain. But can a poster make a better decision that said GM? It will be a less educated decision, but is it possible that a fan makes a better call?
I mean there are tons of contracts that are signed to fans dislike and later proven terrible. What does that say about the GM?
