Love having a racist own a platform I used to really like.

Mastodon has simplified their signup process...

I'm hoping it will become the platform of choice... ActivityPub has a lot of cross platform potential.

I love this description of Twitter Blue.

Quote:
I'm not here to judge anyone who pays for Twitter Blue. However, I'm not a fan of pay-to-win mechanics. At this point, Twitter is a game where players compete for the most attention; Twitter Blue is overpowered DLC. If you buy a subscription, your tweets are shown at the top of comment threads and prioritized in other contexts, including the “For You” page. This makes Blue the social media equivalent of paying for unlimited ammo or improved body armor, regardless of who you are or whether what you have to say is worth promoting.

It also makes Twitter really annoying to use. No one wants to play with the people who are paying to win. That's why there's so much mockery of, and desire to avoid, Twitter Blue users.

Some users refuse to follow those with blue check marks.

Who was the poster who compared the people with checkmarks to the star bellied sneetches from Dr. Seuss?

they were so right.

I know lots of people using extensions on PC to automatically block Bluechecks that didn't have a Bluecheck before Musk, but I'm just generally using Twitter less, and definitely clicking into comment threads less since I don't want to wade through the worst takes imaginable to find actually good posts.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...jbcfbjidmcngfe is particularly helpful, since it has the option to disallow blocking for accounts with 10k+ followers, so you really just filter out clowns.

So Twitter just stopped working for me in Firefox. After some looking around, it appears Twitter no longer works if you don't accept cookies. Guess I'll have to clear them often.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...policy-change/

Quote:
On Monday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted a warning that all inactive Twitter accounts would soon be purged, potentially impacting follower counts.

"We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop," Musk tweeted.

Twitter's official policy now considers a user inactive if they fail to log in "at least every 30 days." An archived version of this policy shows that as recently as April 19, the policy had been to log in every six months to keep an account active. Twitter seems to have quietly updated the policy within the past few weeks.

Seriously? So now I have to remember to log in to our company Twitter page every month? I use a Wordpress plugin that auto-tweets, so hopefully that's good enough, otherwise I'm going to setup a bot to login for me once a month. I'll call it "not dead yet."

I remember when Mailmonkey deleted our account for inactivity with no warning. I couldn't get any info back, and of course there is no backup, so it was gone. What did we do? Found something else and never went back. This is a dumb idea. No reason it couldn't be a year.

Tucker is giving up $25M from Fox to do it so he must think it'll be profitable.

Musk is giving CBC an incredible amount of free publicity.

After they removed the tagline about being government funded media on their profile. The reason they left the platform to begin with. Twitter is valueless without users and Musk seems to be intent on driving away anyone who isn't a right wing zealot.

which will ironically also drive away the right wing zealots as they only use twitter to argue with the 'libtards'

Musk says he has found a new CEO for Twitter

https://www.reuters.com/technology/m...er-2023-05-11/

Musk said he will transition to being "exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops".

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) shares jumped 2.4% in volume spike on the news
