The best move they've made is making sure Jeff Fisher is still the coach of that team. (that's not to discount anything you said).

First off, knock off the asterisk swearing.
Im not impressed at all by the Titans "young" team. Neither is Haynesworth who was quoted as saying the Titans are getting worse:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...h_N.htm?csp=34
Quote:
"It's like a repeat of last year," Haynesworth said Tuesday. "We need more weapons for Vince (Young). Now we need more defensive linemen. We are not doing anything. We are really just making ourselves worse the way I look at it. … It doesn't look like we're trying to get better."
|
And that young receiving core with good potential. Who exactly? Justin Gage? Roydell Williams? Eric Moulds? Mike Williams? Oh wait you must mean Alge Crumpler? Right...
The running backs - LenDale White had a 1000 yard season but is definitely no game breaker and Chris Henry is a situational back... even if he's from Arizona. This is moot because Young can carry the ball so effectively himself.
They also lost several players on defense.
The Titans have $25-28M worth of cap room this year and they signed Kearse? No WR to give Young a big, dependable target? Nothing.
So before you jump all over me, read the papers, check out who's left and who's signed.

First off I didn't mean to sound like I jumped all over you and I'm sorry for that.
Secondly off-season just started, there's still the draft to add players and the eventual trades and signings that will happen.
The Wide Recivers. Roydell Williams has had 1 season starting and improved every game. Next year he will be a main target. Brandon Jones is also starting to come into his own. I'm not sold on Mike Williams yet, we'll see and same goes for Troupe. I like Chris Davis' potential and Biron Ealy is a big man who will be a big target for Young down field next year. Plus Justin Gauge had a breakout year and Alge Crumpler is a big tight end that Young can throw to in combination with Bo Scaife.
The Running Backs. You don't need a game breaker when you have Young so the fact you boast a young running back who can rush for 1000 yards, Chris Brown who can put up your random 100 yard game and is great on short yardage and still have a very young and very tankish Chris Henry is more than enough on the running game.
As far as the defense goes they still have Finnegan, Bullock, Vanden Bosch, and Haynesworth. That IS their defense. Everyone else is replaceable.
And as far as Haynesworth goes, that's his opinion but no one has ever accused that man of being anything other than a great football player. I'm just so glad he's standing by his team like they stood by him when he stomped on that guys head.
Plain and simple their young core stays together and they get better through the experience alone. They add some experience on defense (Kearse isn't a huge addition by any means but he's no worse than LaBoy) and another target for Young to pass too and you say they're getting worse? I don't see it. If anything they're slightly better than the team that made the playoffs last season. The question is are they better than the teams loading up around them? That's what the regular season is for.

I read Lendale White is having knee surgery and that Ben Troupe signed in Tampa Bay.

I was unaware Troupe had signed elsewhere but like I said I wasn't sold on him anyways, not a big loss.
If Lendale White is indeed having surgery that's a huge blow but Brown and Henry will have to step up and take some of the pressure off Young.

There's better back-ups out there than Trent Green at this point in his career. Carr, Leftwich, Harrington, Culpepper, Brunell, etc.

Agreed. Green is a hard hit away from being a drooling mess for the rest of his life. I cant believe he can still play, health-wise, and that any team would take a shot at him... especially with serviceable backups available.
I also find it funny that they signed him for 3 years. My knowledge regarding the NFLs non-guaranteed contracts and salary cap details is sketchy at best, but this is downright laughable. I wonder what the purpose of the contract's length is.

He'll be a huge upgrade over Shanle on the weak side!!...for the 3 games he'll play next year . I like the signing though. Considering for what its worth, its low risk with the possibility of a high reward.

Well worth a shot. The guy could still be great if his melon doesn't liquify. Good signing.

Can't hurt I suppose. Overall I like the moves on defense, but they haven't done enough in the secondary. I think craft goes to nickle which is where he belongs, I still can't believe they brought him into their 2deep system.
I still hope they take a good cover CB with their #10 pick.

I'm really starting to think this is going to be the plan. I think the only way they go anywhere else would be if Ellis or Dorsey fall to the Saints at #10(which one New Orleans sportswriter said would be as shocking as the Texans passing on Bush). Considering there should still be good talent at DT to be found in the 2nd round(which IMO the Saints really need to address), I don't see how the Saints won't go corner in round one. Come on Cromartie!!

Larry Fitzgerald extends with the Cardinals. 4 years $40 million, $30 guaranteed, and a NTC.
With the cap hit he was due this year, this is no surprise. Who will Philly target now?

Anyone specific in mind for the draft? Limus Sweed will be gone by 19, but perhaps Kelly from Oklahoma or Manningham from Michigan (who I think will be much like Mike Williams USC)?
DeSean Jackson is in there, but he's slated more for KR/PR than WR duties.
