I dont. I blasted Benning for the Roussel, and Beagle contracts (on reddit) and hated the extra year in Ferlands contract.

but I find it hard to hate on getting rid of THREE anchor contracts for two NHLers who can help us right now. All it took was a 9th in a weak draft, a 2nd next season and a 7th in 2023.

All this talk of Vancouver having garbage defense, do the flames finish better than them?
yes

OEL can't help you now.

You got rid of three anchor contracts in exchange for one that's much worse - $12M of dead cap space in a year that you weren't going to contend anyway, compared to $43.5M of dead cap space spread out over the next six years. That's Pettersson's and Hughes's prime, wasted.

Three ONE YEAR anchor contracts. And you forgot taking on a huge 6 year anchor contract that almost equals all 3 of the ones going out in cap space. I've got some bad news about how much help OEL is going to be as well.

They're not anchors when they're a year from being washed. And a year when the Canucks aren't expected to do anything. Easy to wait out.

An anchor is OEL's albatross for 6 more years. That is, undisputably, an anchor.

I’m impressed by the refrain from Tre on these deals. Really good sign IMO

every team has an anchor contract, but OEL can still help us and at 7m it's a lot easier to swallow.

It’s not just term, it’s AAV. I can’t imagine how bad he’s going to be in 1-2 years. I don’t see him magically becoming what he used to be.

OEL is going to love the Canadian media and fans. Lol

Not a contract like that one. It makes Lucic's look good. And no, OEL is not going to help.

Yeah, Eriksson was the Canucks'. And then it was almost over, and they got another one for even longer and even more money. To say nothing of Myers, who is also an anchor contract.

I know some people think Schmidt is an anchor too, but I actually think Schmidt could very reasonably bounce back and be worth his deal based on his play before last season... which is going to make it all the funnier when they trade him for next to nothing before opening night.

Just reading this now and scanned the last page of comments. I think this is a good deal for the Nucks, they dump 3 anchors and pick up 2 useful players. Personally I don't hate OEL and think he will rebound away from the mess in Arizona. A division rival just got better IMO.
