I really don't like Ward, but I'm not sure I would have handled that question any differently were I in his shoes. The whole team apart from Lucic, Bennett, Dube, Talbot, and Backlund has been ass.

Their performance is a result of the poor performances from their best players, no question.

However, I think it also needs to be pointed out that when Ward finally decided to mix things up a bit, his solution was to put Reider on the top line.

Down 2-1 in a playoff game in the 3rd period and he promotes a guy to the top line who had a zero goal season. One year ago.

Barf. Classic Flames hockey folks. Hoping they figure this out and go on a run but 100 percent not expecting it.

Hoping for a good coach hire and shake up this offseason.

You need another side to make a deal, only want to make moves that make sense for now and for the future, the asks are too high for what we’re willing to pay. It’s a process.

With Tkachuk out, I've been wanting Ryan up in the top 6, not Rieder.

Guys, we know what happens next.
People say change for the sake of change is bad. Not changing is worse. This team doesnt have the right pieces, they have good pieces, just not the right ones. Make changes.

much of the time due to geography, hard to fault him there

If the Flames were in Cali or something they would have Stone and Kadri IMO

Coaching is an issue, especially when it is several players coming up with the same bad habits or lack of performances. IMO Johnny shouldn't be on the top line during the playoffs, the coach should put him where he can best utilize his strengths. That is what coaching is all about. Ward doesn't have the experience to make adjustments so we get poor systems, rinse and repeat, mistakes such as, how to run out the clock. Small things but huge game changers in the playoffs.

Reider's speed has been giving the Stars problems all series...wasn't surprised to see him there and it was one of the Flames better periods of the series

When the Flames missed the playoffs in 2018 they made sweeping changes that summer that included a new coach and moving a core piece in Hamilton. They raised the bar next year winning the division but were limited in making moves due to several key RFA’s when they got bounced swiftly in round one. They made the playoffs again this year but simply making it is not enough there absolutely will be significant change this off-season if they lose this series.

What? He's already completed two thirds of that big contract. He's off the books completely in 2 years.

I don't disagree that the time might be right to pass the C to Tkachuk, Conroy understood when it was time to give it to Iggy in '03.

Lots of hate for the top line, which is not surprising on this forum. For me, this series has been about defense.

Dallas' offense was sputtering through the second half of the year. Calgary consistently gave up 35+ shots a game, were consistently hemmed in and unable to break out of their own zone. Overall that is their biggest problem.

As I said in another thread, I think those teams that played the play in round were at a huge disadvantage as they had played a number of high intensity games against quality competition and have each looked slower relative to those teams who played the relatively relaxed round robin games.

Wards whole bit about this team being scared/nervous because they’d never been in a 2-2 situation is moronic.

Guess what? They’ve also not been in a spot where they’ve been down 3-2 in a series. So after they lose on Thursday - are they then going to be experienced enough to not lose next game...sometime like 10 months from now?
