But you seem to have a blind spot about the first goal that went in on Smith. Yeah it was a good shot. But Smith has been down deep in his net all year and let in lots of similar goals. If he is not down it does not go "bardownski". It's a goaltending style that was also a problem with Hiller. You didn't think it was a problem then and don't think it's a problem with Smith now. I strongly disagree. Smith simply gives shooters too much to shoot at. Playing that style leaves him vulnerable to flat out bad goals as well as good shots from poor angles like Atkinson's last night.
That 4th goal that went bar down (2nd Atkinson goal) goes in on all NHL goalies about 90% of the time. It's a virtually unstoppable shot unless a goalie is cheating with his position and standing up. And I'm certainly not a Smith defender.

If you think that 4th goal is a bad goal, the only thing more I've got to say is that your take is terrible.

Not saying it's a particularly bad goal. I'm saying he goes down deep in the net and gets beaten a lot in those situations. If he's standing up or cuts down the angle, Atkinson has nothing to shoot at.

And then he passes to Jones or Panarin and Smith can't move laterally to either cut off the pass or make the save because he's too upright. He had to play the shooter but be ready for the other options. Can you imagine if he way out of the crease and Atkinson goes backdoor to Jones. Or straightened up (so no push off) and the puck goes to Panarin in the slot for a far side shot?

Atkinson's shot wasn't from a poor angle, it was from just inside the right circle at maybe 45 degrees. Monahan scores a tonne from that position on the opposite side and everyone just says "great shot". And like I said before, Smith had to play deep there anticipating a number of options. He did go down a bit early, but Atkinson can't make that shot 9 times out of 10 I bet. He either misses high or hits Smith in the shoulder.

You are ignoring where Seth Jones was.
