The flames were just moving it so quickly and confidently while the blue jackets seemed to shrink into a smaller and smaller box as the flames moved the puck faster and faster. It was awesome.

The PP still had some Dave Cameron stink to start the season. But it's really come into it's own. It's has been, dare I say it, winning us games! The PP last night got the team back on track with some big goals. They are moving the puck around. Having Lindholm and Tkachuk doing one timers, something the team has sorely lacked since Dennis Wideman, is doing wonders.

Stop spoiling the ATL.
The worst is seeing screenshots from the oily boards.

Going through the highlights this morning, I don't have any issues with the goals either of the goalies let in. Even on Rittich's 3rd goal, that's a laser of a slapper places in the perfect spot.

Goaltending is absolutely trending in the right direction.

Rittich makes a save (or has a shot at one anyway) if he realizes the rebound has gone all the way out to the point.

Second Rittich Goal: I think it was a decent goal, but man, if Smith lets one in from there it's a different story.

First Smith Goal: Just outdueled by a really good player and beaten by a good shot that went in under the bar. It's a 50-50 play where Smith went with the odds of where shots usually go. Bob was beaten by a similar shot but everyone just praised the shooter on that one.

The goals Bob let in were probably worse than any except the third Rittich goal. 5 holes - have a look at what's said about Smith when that happens. Pretty open shots from the slot like Lindholm).
The first Smith goal, it's a great shot by Atkinson. handcuffs Smith. But, the biggest issue is how deep he is in the net.

Yeah, I suppose, but he did have to worry about both a backdoor pass to Jones and Panarin in the slot right up until the shot is taken so he couldn't challenge as much as you'd like.

It's bardownski, you can't hardly stop those.

Thanks for the consideration.

I personally have never taken offense if someone posts a few tidbits early. I do them because I enjoy myself. But I don't go in the PGTs until I finish up (or to give notice of a delay) so I don't see them til later.

But for those who do feel slighted, I suggest the use of the spoiler tags like I do.

Both goalies had one bad goal, 3rd for Rittich and 4th for Smith, but it’s kind of hard to blame them for the others.

1st is a mega screen where Rittich just thought he had it until he realized he didn’t.

2nd perfect screen off the post and in. Low blocker, hard to stop.

3rd is a shot that Rittich was late on. Should have had it

4th Smith goes down early and leaves a huge hole over his shoulder as he’s deep in his net.

5th perfect shot over the shoulder on a breakaway

6th tip on a point shot just in front of the goal.

Two good teams going to blows. This one I don’t really blame on the goaltenders at all.
You honestly think that the 4th goal (1st on Smith) was a bad goal or that that one was realistically stoppable???

Holy smokes. No.

A couple weeks ago people were saying win and your in. Who cares who the goalie is if the team is picking up Ws. There is no need to be in goalies corner, it is a long season and every player is going to have their ups and downs.

"Remember when the Jackets led this game by 3 goals? Pepperidge Farm remembers."

"Top 3 dumbest periods of hockey I've ever watched."

"Dear lord... I go take a shower between periods, return and WTF... ??? Did they pull both goalies and pelt each other with shots at the start of the second?"

My favorite quotes from Gaskals ATL report.

Gaskal, I always look forward to your reports, so thanks a lot for taking the time.

Fun game to watch.

Hey Monahan is tied for 8th in goals. Plus, he's 1st in easy tap-ins.*

I get that you want to defend Smith because you think he's being piled on and I actually think you're right that Rittich let in worse goals of the two last night.

But you seem to have a blind spot about the first goal that went in on Smith. Yeah it was a good shot. But Smith has been down deep in his net all year and let in lots of similar goals. If he is not down it does not go "bardownski". It's a goaltending style that was also a problem with Hiller. You didn't think it was a problem then and don't think it's a problem with Smith now. I strongly disagree. Smith simply gives shooters too much to shoot at. Playing that style leaves him vulnerable to flat out bad goals as well as good shots from poor angles like Atkinson's last night.

The massive difference between Smith and Hiller is that Smith still possesses the athleticism to recover and make those saves even when he is vulnerable.

I still think he is playing just okay, but I also believe that for over a week now Rittich has not been much better. But this is the situation in which the Flames find themselves: BOTH goalies will run hot and cold. BOTH goalies will make big saves and let in bad goals. BOTH goalies will platoon and it should be enough for the Flames to get themselves into the playoffs—perhaps even with home-ice advantage.
