The team became a lot more cohesive after the line brawl, that's for sure.

Absolutely. Their record over the next 80 games played was pretty damn good if I recall (split over the 2 seasons ).

Not really being talked about here that I can see, but Tkachuk could be in trouble for that little slewfoot on Marincin at the end of the game:

Reddit is a total Toronto-Vancouver-Edmonton salt mine about it.

I thought the Bennnet Slew Foot was worse than the Tkachuk. Tkachuk looks like he's battling for position and buddy slipped.

I thought so first, but Tkachuk appears to give a little kick just as Marincin turns. Everything up to that point is just a positional battle though.

While technically correct, I'd say two things to that.
1) it doesn't matter how teams like Carolina, Tampa Bay or New Jersey are doing, they're not threatening our playoff spot.
2) The teams behind us are not great either. Here's a couple of measuring sticks.
We have 7 points in the last 10 games.
Vancouver has 13
Winnipeg has 9
LA has 8
Dallas has 8
St. Louis has a spot right above us, and 8 points in the last 10.
So while we've lost some ground, only Vancouver has significantly gained on us. While we've been "sucking", the teams behind us have also mostly been "sucking", just a little less.
Another measuring sticks, goal differential. Usually a good predictor of how things will go.
LA is at -3.
We're at -12.
Winnipeg -12
St. Louis -13
Vancouver -19
Dallas -22
In summary, we'll likely be fighting for the wild card spots until the very last games, which is in no way unusual and doesn't mean the team sucks. It just means they're mediocre.
The best things fans can do at this point is stop screaming the team sucks and show some faith in them.
The Flames don't suck. They're 17th in a 30 team league, which we know is a really tough league with lots of parity.

I completely agree, I couldn't believe that when he said that after the Oiler game. Straight from his mouth...

Flames have a .510 point percentage, good for 25th in the league - 6th worst in the NHL.

4 points out from 27th, with plenty of games in hand on the teams chasing. I know there's the glass half full view that they are in a playoff spot, but i think that will evaporate quickly

I think people are overly sensitive about the slew foot since Racki messed up Derek in Youngblood. When's the last time a guy got hurt from a slew foot?

No they haven't. They had a terrible start and are in the middle of an equally terrible stretch. They haven't been "outclassed" for most of the season. There was a large chunk in there that this team was firing on all cylinders and was one of the hottest teams in the league.
Most fans on here wrote them off after game 2 and they crawled back to be in the conversation again. The Flames were never going to challenge for the division - they were always going to be a wild card team this year. Which is exactly where they're at.

I miss old time hockey. People still talk about that January game from 2 years ago in Vancouver and how ENTERTAINING that was. It bottles the mind that whoever crosschecked Hathaway in the neck wasn't immediately pummeled by the two closest Flames.
Hockey (in general) has become emotionless, and this is the product we got now. If my team is losing anyway, I'd rather see them lose showing some fire and each time Johnny or Mony got touched, there were consequences. Even if someone looks at our goalie the wrong way, they at least get a stinky glove to the face.
But that's just me.

So let's do a point percentage comparison with the relevant teams, because again most teams don't really matter when it comes to our playoff chances.
St.Louis .54
Vancouver .52
Winnipeg .52
LA .51
Flames .51
Dallas .49
These are really small differences.
If Vancouver loses it's next game, they're at .51.
If we win our next game we're at .52.
Some stats are better for some teams, some are better for other teams, but the summary is still the same. We're in the mix. No more, no less.
(Btw, if I have to pick one stat to favour my team, I'll take actual points.)

I would rather they came out playing with fire to begin with. To be clear, by that I mean skate hard, take the body, it doesn't need to be fighting and face washing.

I thought the Flames were quite good through the first. It's unfortunate that they just couldn't seem to push back hard enough after a very nice goal.
To be fair, I was impressed by Toronto. That's one of the best all around games I've seen them play this year.
