That hockey was not entertaining to watch. Recency bias is showing strong in this thread.

This much overreaction shouldn't come after what was ultimately a fairly close game. Calgary gave up 2 goals on 5v3's essentially, cant expect to make it out of those safely. If the PP had connected ONCE (and it definitely could have, they got some good chances) then we're probably going to OT.
The Flames haven't been that bad this year. Decent at 5v5. PP is killing them, but if they were 3 for 22 instead of 1 for 22 we'd probably be 3-2 and complaining about how the refs (and Grossmann and wideman) conspired to lose us the first two games.
What I don't like is how inactive the defense are. When a Gio or Brodie picks up the puck in the d zone, he should turn on the jets and lead the rush himself, dump it in and go forecheck. Very few of the Flames' forwards have food puck retrieval skills, so the defensemen should be used when safe.
Also, goddamn, fix the PP.
Also, Ferland is not a plug. He has the skill to play in the top 9 and contribute on both sides of the puck. His hitting is a bonus and while we'd all like to see him lay people out more often, it's not required for him to do a good job.

Disagree. Players looked better but goaltending was like having an open net.

Lol, ok then. This hockey we're seeing right now is better, and more entertaining then last year?
I'm glad that I'm not a season ticket holder, I would be really angry if I was paying good money to watch this garbage.

I don't know what else today except look at some of the PGTs from October of last year. It was worse.
Recency bias strong.

What makes you think that? None of his acquisitions have really excelled. He's a good negotiator but besides that he leaves a lot to be desired.

Brouwer has been our most consistent forward so far this season...
Frolik has been our 2nd most consistent forward this season...

A GM can't work in hindsight. Almost every single one of his moves have been praised heavily by this forum and hockey minds in the media.

I'm not talking about the 5 games played this season
Frolik was okay last season but his contract isn't great.

It's a GM's job to nail it. Not please talking heads and then have the players turn out to be meh.

So you'd rather judge him on the past rather than the present?
Good talk.

That doesn't make any sense.
What moves would you criticize, specifically?

The present is everything he's done THIS off-season. He's the one making the team not playing the games. Surely you realize that.
Securing Elliott and Johnson who were both thought of as great pieces. Blues fans were livid they only got a 2nd round pick for Elliott.
Brouwer a RW power forward is exactly the type of player missing from the team.
Signing Gaudreau to a cheap deal that nobody (including analysts) saw coming.
Great draft getting us excited about late round picks like Eetu Tuulola and Phillips.
Low risk, high reward signings like Chiasson, Versteeg, Pribyl.
This team is failing on the ice, not on paper.

He was actually one of the nicest players I've ever met to be honest, and his wife too. Pretty hard to dislike him. We probably talked about the game and the season in general for a good 10-15 minutes.

The problem with the team is defence and zone coverage. The amount of prime chances this team gives up every game is staggering and a recipe for disaster for what we are seeing early in the season. This must be cleaned up fast or it's going to be a long season. No excuses losing to a team like the Canes at home.

I'm curious about Elliot. He had great stats with St Louis but average to below average stats anywhere else he has played. I don't know What to think of him.

As long as the team as a whole is playing like crap I think you must run with the guy who has a best chance of stealing you points, and that has been Johnson.
Can't afford to take risks that may accelerate dropping out of the standings race early.

Agreed. They really really really want to avoid controversy and have their number one guy picked.. but when number two looks way more comfortable, is making the big save and generally is playing better you have to go with him. Sorry E77iott but Johnson right now looks like the better option.

Games were definitely worse in the past. Those Brent Sutter vs Minnesota Wild games weren't worth going to for free. I left the Dome early a few times in that era. There was one against the Predators I left the Dome after five minutes and it was the right choice.

This is true. But every GM gets evaluated in hindsight.
