Again I think Gaudreau's deal will not exceed Giordano's 6.75 AAV. Could be wrong. Don't think so. #Flames

If the Flames are trying to get Johnny on a long term deal under 7 million I could understand why these negotiations have dragged out so long. If I was his agent no way would I take a number under 7.

What if you had Treliving, wearing his wizard hat, starring from across the table at you. To make matters worse you have Conroy sitting beside you talking your ear off.

Everybody breaks down at some point.

Hearing under 7 million has me a bit nervous. I could live with 6 years but hopefully its not less.

You mean like this very accurate Harry Potter/Brad Treliving mashup?

I feel like the only way this is happening would be with a shorter term. $6M per RFA year and $10M per UFA year seems like it might be a reasonable starting point (using various comparables), possible contracts could be:
5 years @ $6M AAV
6 years @ $6.7M AAV
7 years @ $7.1M AAV
8 years @ $7.5M AAV

Treliving needs to push for the best deal that is in the best, long-term interests of the Flames, otherwise he would not be doing his job.

This probably won't be a popular post, but I'm starting to think i would rather have Johnny sign less term, 5-6 years, for less money, than a 7-8 term for more money. I want the flames to win the cup and i think 5-6 years it plenty of time. With the extra money saved they might be able to fit in that "extra" piece that puts them over the top.

There is definitely some validity to what you are saying.

The Johnny Gaudreau is trying to bolt to the Flyers boogie man has people way to scared of a shorter deal with Johnny.

If you believe in Johnny and you are the Flames, you try to lock him up as long as you can for 7 or less. If you are Johnny, I'd balk at that and ask for more. He'd be locking in low, especially when consider his history, and that's what his agent is likely telling him. Potentially the best player in his draft class, taken in the 4th round. Due to his stature, he's always been under estimate / valued and that's what he's got to be thinking now. If the Flames aren't willing to pay top dollar now (and IMO, they shouldn't be) Johnny's got to be thinking his trajectory suggests he shouldn't let the Flames purchase any UFA years now. Those are going to be worth way more after he lights it up for a few more seasons.

While I hope BT findes a way to score a cap friendly long term deal now, I totally fine doing this in stages with Gaudreau as it will force himself to prove his worth also.

This talk of a Giordano cap is nonsense IMO. I like him a lot and he is very valuable to this team but if Giordano is your top guy, you're not sipping champagne at the end of the playoffs.

The playoff year, Gio was the best player and there was nothing wrong with that. He was a friggen beast, and the clear cut favorite for the Norris.

Remember the last time the Flames won a Cup who the Conn Smythe winner was?

If the Flanes are refusing to go beyond Gio's cap hit, then it's no wonder a long term deal hasn't been struck. Gio and Johnnys contracts have nothing to do with each other, really hope BT isn't hung up on some stupidity around no one can make more than Gio.
