Yeah...I dont know about that. I mean, if you had some pride and confidence in your abilities I could see it, but MacT....
Its not like 29 other teams were breaking his door down to come and work for them, and his body of work...? Well, lets call his body of work....less than impressive?
Its barely above the abilities of the average fan. Even that might be generous.
If an organization is still willing to sign a paycheque with his name on it he should hold onto that position like grim death.

The older gentleman in the front seat is retiring...I hear MacT has the inside track to replace him.
If someone has any Photoshop skills could you please superimpose MacT's head onto this body.

So which fifteen teams does Chia call to see if they will trade rosters with him?

absolutely true.
by the same token, a lot of people had Calgary in the McDavid sweepstakes this year...
if the Oilers go out and sign a good UFA goalie and trade some assets for some decent D, there's no reason why they couldn't be a playoff team.
They have a ton of chips. maybe MacT would have f'd it up, but Chiarelli is less likely to do so...
it will be sickening if Oiler fans come onto this site and crow about their team...f up as much as possible and win lotteries as a rebuild strategy...
f'n Brilliant...

Thats the problem, it was always the plan and they'll scream at the top of their lungs that it was indeed that, brilliant.
And thats the part that infuriates everyone, it may have actually worked.
Sure, it hasnt worked yet, but sucking hard, ruining countless careers and jettisoning people when they've served their usefulness just might have worked out in the end.
Its like when Trailer Trash bank on winning the lottery in order to justify buying all the stuff they want, they're complete fataing morons especially if they win it a couple of times and it isnt enough.
Until they win it that one time and it is. Presuming they dsont screw it up again they come up smelling like roses despite the fact that they're still the same fataing morons they were when they started.

better lucky than good apparently.
Considering at #4 Bennett is the highest draft pick in Calgary's HISTORY and we've had that exactly once. Plus 4 picks at #6, Edmonton's range of picks in this 6 year span alone trumps 35 years of flames draft position, it pretty annoying...

Apparently, but you cant say that any of this wasnt part of the plan.
They legitimately tanked for Hall, RNH and Yakupov. Draisaitl and McDavid were simply the fruits of the failure of that plan, but it was their plan all along and it appears to have the potential to be successful.

Draft Pick

I don't see the point in having McTavish there if Chiarelli is going to be the new GM (Maybe MacT will be a designated personal BJ artist for Chiarelli?).
If I'm the Oilers, I just get rid of both MacT and Lowe completely.
Oilers are going to be deadly these next three years. McDavid on an ELC is effin' scary.

getting rewarded for failure is the sad reality of every pro league...but MOST teams pull out of a death spiral after a couple of number one picks + a couple of top five/ten picks panning out...
Sure they tanked, but you can't bank on winning the draft lottery... in theory at least...

While on the face, with an egotistical enabler like Laforge now removed from Lowe's allies, it appears in the right direction. But, as has been mentioned, with Lowe lurking in the shadows and still with an office in the building, do not underestimate his abilities.
I am sure he was going to let Tambelleni do his job. I am sure he was going to let Quinn and Renney do their job...but his ego won't let him in the end and he has to have his hands all over every part of the on ice product and roster...trying to emulate the power Sather had.
(as an aside, for those that recall the Smid issue where the Oilers doctors, and management (Lowe), let him play with a lump on his neck for months, not even worrying about doing an MRI, I present this http://www.coppernblue.com/2014/10/3...ome-dirt-in-it)
But Lowe is a wheeler and dealer. He convinced Quinn and Renney to get the job. He convinced a guy like Chris Pronger (aided by promises of other stars coming) to come to Edmonton for a few months. His antics with Comrie means he has no problem thinking he's smarter and more powerful than the establishment, and in trying to emulate his former boss in Sather, that sort of egotism has sunk this team to those depths with the meddling and outright lying reputation he's earned over the past decade+.
As far as MacT, he's as gone as he was when Lowe didn't renew his contract just before the SC run. He now provides no usefulness to Lowe and thus has no allies left; Lowe will need find a different mole to figure out what PC is doing and MacT can no longer be the mouthpeice for his public messages or marionette for roster moves.
It may be a move forward, but I don't think any UFA and player (or his agent) with an NMC, with the Oilers on the "avoid at all costs" list within the NHLPA, are going to assume the multitude of reasons that that organization is on that list, is suddenly ok with these moves....especially with the egotistical sole creator of that mess still employed by the organization.

I've never brought this up before, but maybe this is the beginning of karma for all of the Oilers bashing going on here at CP?

No I don't think so. First of all the CP bashing was karma for the Oilers fans of the 80's and 90's being pompous and arrogant. Second of all the Oilers were still arguably the worst team in the league this season. New GM's and a top draft pick help but there's a lot of work to be done before that team becomes a contender at anything other than drafting top 10.
