Much prefer the experience at Home Depot over Lowes. Easier returns is a huge part of it (I dont have to keep receipts at HD, and I typically "overbuy" every project since I know I'll be back anyways).

I prefer Home Depot over Lowe's as well, but the competition doesn't hurt. And Lowe's does carry some brands and products that Home Depot doesn't, which is nice. I recently picked up a router table at Lowe's that has worked out ok, and was better than the options available at Home Depot or Rona.

I think you're understating how terrible that Rona is - it's more like a hardware convenience store. I can almost never find what I need there and end up going to Home Depot, and the customer service is pretty much non-existent.

Lowe's actually has the item you're looking for in stock.

Also, Simon's is going up on Stephen Ave (downtown) in 2018. Not sure they will put up a second store without testing the Calgary market with that one first.
If Good Life had any brains, they would have moved from their awful Richmond location (old, needs a major facelift) into that huge former Signal Hill Target. But they didn't. Ugh.

Uniqlo is disappointingly basically Japanese H&M with GAP pricing.

It would be ok to have a store like this close by if there other options anywhere even remotely close. What's the next closest Rona/Home Depot/ Lowes? Chinook Home Depot? That's quite a ways away.

I own some Uniqlo, and I couldn't agree more. Every trip has been excitement followed by wandering through generic clothes until I find one or two things I like. I have a pair of jeans and some t shirts I really like, but given all my trips there it isn't very many things.
I do like Muji. Find they're great for basics. NYC is the only one I have been too, and not for a few years but I remember always liking that store.

Kobalt tools are awesome too. 5 year warranty on power tools. I have 5 Kobalt power tools and they perform very well. I killed a drill by leaning into it during high torque and they took it back without a receipt and gave me store credit.

So that area along the side of the now ghost town former Target building in Signal Hill leading to "The Stairs", has become quite entertaining on my evening walks. I mentioned in this thread before about that odd yoga class behind the building, run by that one dude for what appeared to be tailored to exclusively pretty, 30'ish, Audi driving women.
This week so far I've seen a car full of teens hot boxing the bejesus out of it. And then last night when I was leaving, there were 2 teens hooking up pretty furiously in the back seat of what looked like his dad's Chrysler (to the dude's credit, when I first pulled up they were still chatting in the front seat, and she looked like she was about 6 numbers above him on the "Out of 10" attractiveness scale. He looked like a young Adam Morrison).
Becoming quite the den of vice along the side there, I keep waiting to see Frank Reynolds and his Vietnamese poker buddies playing a cigar smoke-filled game back there. Gonna be a sad day for them when Lowe's finally opens.
EDIT: I also don't understand why they're choosing that area instead of the massive front parking lot, which is completely empty all the time. The side area is this narrow little corridor between that building and Staples, that sees a steady stream of joggers and dog walkers going by. But I suppose teens have never been revered for their common sense.

Just FYI for those of you who have trouble keeping receipts, Home Depot can set you up with email receipts when you pay with CC (I think it's just CC, and not Debit). It's the best feature ever as I just file them all in a folder in my e-mail and always have a receipt if I need to return, find out what I paid for something, etc.

I turned that feature off after Home Depot had all their data stolen. If their data isn't secure then I don't trust them to store my email address and credit card info together. That seems like a recipe for someone to steal your info when the credit card companies will send password resets to your email address.

They'd have to have access to your email for that to matter.. and if they have access to your email (not through Home Depot) then trying a password reset on all the credit card companies isn't that big a deal, there's not that many of them, so knowing which credit card type was used with which email doesn't increase risk that much IMO.

There are credit card companies that do that? MasterCard won't.

Haha ohhh there was a lot more than making out going on in there methinks...all I saw when I came back were what looked like (he had dark tinted back windows...smooth) feet and legs in the air.
Not that I cared at all, if for some reason he and I made eye contact as I was leaving I prob would've given him the thumbs up (like I said earlier, based on looks, dude was way out of his league. I was proud of him). I just find it quite entertaining what that area has turned into in the short time since they stripped the building of security cameras and whatnot.
No rules, it's like the alternate Biffco 1985! Crazy, drunk pedestrians

I grew up literally just at the top of those stairs. Lots of great memories hanging and skateboarding in that alley. (Cool story bro)
