Why Lords of hockey themselves, of course. But they gifted Johnny with the abilities of greatness, and thus would be biased.

This.
Even if Johnny passes Forsberg in scoring, I can see the award going to say Ekblad, just cause I don't trust anyone within the league to make the obvious or sensible choice when It comes to a member of a western Canadian team. Like why hold a vote when you weren't going to take the actual winner in the first place? AND then have the audacity to put "received the most votes" in the press release. Either there's some secret biased fans being put behind these decisions or the league is run by a bunch of crooks and all this rigging talk over the years hasn't been that far off.
It's not that I really care much about this weekend as a whole and am trying to blow it out of proportion, but the league is really toying with their respectability from fans by pulling sketchy business like this right in front of our eyes. And it has to make one wonder about things beyond the all star event. Things that hold real importance.

If Johnny does pass Forsberg, Ekblad is their perfect scapegoat. Defensemen make perfect scapegoats. There is no tangible number to rank him on other than "he looked good, then we went to bed because the games in the west are on too late. Johnny who?"

Wow there is a bunch of drama queens in this thread. It's fairly simple, they needed to keep an even number of rookies for the skills competition. Hoffman and Gaudreau to one team, drouin and sekac to the other one. You guys are worked up over nothing.

I can handle the neon green jerseys, I can handle the contrived fantasy draft, I can handle giving cars to the last picked so they don't cry, but having a different number of players on each team is unbelievable regardless of whether it is Johnny Hockey or not not going.
NHL All-Star game is officially a joke for me (I am sure that many people got there well before I did).

Well, I must be really dumb, because I don't get the priority here. It is important to keep the same number of rookies for each skills competition at the expense of a roster spot for the ASG? Why? It is not like the rookies are facing off against each other in specific events.

Gaudreau will participate in the Breakaway Challenge.
Quote:
Team Toews was quick on the selections for the Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge, going with forwards Vladimir Tarasenko of the Blues, Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers and Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames. Chicago's Corey Crawford was selected as the goalie.

I wonder if this was the first time a player asked a fan for a photo...

People shouldn't discuss it?
Why though is it necessary? No more necessary than having even teams really.

I don't care, personally.
But since you brought it up, and since you felt the need to insult other posters, let's look at your 'simple' logic...
You are suggesting that they need an even number of rookies for the skills competition. 1) why? and 2) even if he were playing, he could still be part of the skills competition (as all participants are), so there is no 'need' that has to be served.
And you are also suggesting (inferring) that they don't need an even number of players for the game. It would seem to me, that it there were any concerns about even squads, it would be for the game, not the skills competition. However, and again, his participating in the game in no way precludes him or limits him from the skills competition, so it's a non-issue to begin with.
If you're going to insult other posters, at least try to make sense.

I'll agree it is silly to get up worked over. If he was going to accept the Calder and Bettman pushes him and gives it to Ekblad I'd say OK yeah that's not cool.
This is the all star game, maybe he's sitting because he's such a big draw and the league feels it's not worth risking injury because of how valuable he is to the league. They want in on that Johnny Hockey money.
