It sounds like the hostage is alive from the brothers standoff.

That's great if true, I just assumed he wouldn't come out alive.

Ambulances rushing en masse to the front of market now. Means the violence is over. Pray for hostages there though.

edit: and they're gone already. That was like 20 seconds from arriving, loading and driving off. Not a good sign.

The vengeful side of me is hoping they were taken out by the police as opposed to taking their own lives somehow.

I hope those ####ers rot in hell. They orchestrated their own misguided demise.

From the Reddit live feed:

"General Director of the National Gendarmerie confirms that the Kaouchi brothers have been killed by the GIGN in Dammartin-en-Goële"

According to AFP, the two suspects in the Charlie Hebdo attack came outside and started shooting.

Conflicting reports on the market situation, with some reports of 6 hostages killed and others saying hostages are being evacuated.

BFMTV replaying the taking of the Kosher market. Looks just like the Sydney operation last month, except ~50 cops waiting to go in through 2 doors. Insane manpower.

Throwing flashbangs and shooting into the market from the sideway. Flashbang/grenade exploding outside on the sidewalk too

Terrorist link:

Both Amedi Coulibaly, the alleged supermarket hostage-taker, and Cherif Kouachi, one of the alleged Charlie Hebdo killers, stood trial together for attempting to spring Smain Ali Belkacem, convicted of a 1995 attack on the Paris subway that killed eight people. Kouachi was released, reportedly due to lack of evidence, but Coulibaly was convicted, the prosecutor said.

If the reports are true and the Kouachi brothers came out of the building shooting, they likely got their death wishes they wanted. Too bad, wish they were taken alive.

So it sounds like the Paris hostage taker is dead as well. What happened to his girlfriend?

Because I like using extreme examples to make a point... It's like the Ku Klux Klan. They used to target Jews, Catholics, natives, and others, but they made a special point of being the most vicious against Africa Americans. On the same subject, the KKK and other white supremacist groups used satirical images to ridicule black people in the past. Being satire shouldn't be a free pass.

This is not directed to you as I understand your point is simply about protecting freedom of speech and not about morally accepting what is actually being said (you even said that people should use their freedom of speech to counter it); but I do find it troubling that for many Charlie Hebdo's hate messages seem beyond criticism because they are protected by freedom of speech.
Comparing Charlie Hebdo with the KKK is like comparing Apples and Oranges. At no time did Charlie Hebdo use or advocate violence against the people they parodied, or anyone else for that matter.
