Maatta is going to get better and they have some other solid defensive prospects. The only problem is if they can afford to wait for these guys to develop. If they were smart they would dangle Pouliot, Bennett and their first round pick to the Flames for Giordano. He's the type of player they could use back there.

I would generally agree with you, but Lundqvist could be a huge factor. He's one of the few goalies in the league capable of playing better than Price or Rask. If he can win the Rangers a couple games the series could go in a different direction than you think.
It would also help if Nash would show up one of these days. At least Richards has stepped up the last few months, but Nash is a shell of his former self.

They should start with firing Shero. Gifted Crosby and Malkin and he hasn't done much to build a team around them. Just the fact he keeps going back to Fleury over and over should be enough to get him canned.
Bylesma should also go no doubt and of course Fleury. The big player I'd move is Letang. In the regular season his dynamic offense makes up for his give aways and poor overall defense, but in the playoffs when things tighten up, his give aways are killer.

pretty sure they could use some of those d prospects, neal, letang, dupuis, heck even fleury, to try to improve other areas. They only have 7 forwards signed for next season.
Lot's of change coming in pittsburg, but no way you trade a crosby or a malkin.

Outside of Nash playing like hot garbage, I'm not sure why.
Rangers are rested and have as good of goaltending as any.

Their next coaching hire will be extremely important. They could fire Shero but there are so many teams looking for GM's and they will already need a new head coach so if they clean house they may be behind the 8-ball in regards to hiring a head coach. Lemieux could be getting antsy though and we should expect some pink slips handed out in Pittsburgh over the next week and the only question is how deep the cuts will be.

It's weird tho that they play a game 7 and are going to be more rested, albeit by one day. They were the only team to play back to back these playoffs? Anyway, one day isn't much, but still valuable I'm sure.
Edit: I'm sure playing the Pens is more of a rest than the Bruins/ Habs, as that series is way more intense on all fronts and harder hitting and more hatred. That's gotta take its toll.

You know what's weird, Dominic Moore has been on 3 recent teams that have eliminated the Pens, MTL/TB/NYR-all in game 7.

I think they'll regret the indecision. Malkin could command an absolute king's ransom. I'm not convinced they do move him.. but when you have the 1st & 4th best players in the entire world.. with an absolute garbage defence, suspect goaltending, and no real depth in the system -- changes gotta happen. Big ones.

Makes sense as it's two straight years where he's seemed to lose the team in the playoffs. Up 3-1 to a Rangers team that was effectively dead it was like they just pulled the pin and quit playing hard. Even tonight there was absolutely no urgency until the last five minutes of the game.
I could see Barry Trotz landing in Pittsburgh as he's proven and is a player's coach.

haha stupid canucks. Fire their head coach for not getting them past the first round. The fired coach gets hired elsewhere and then makes the ECF. Their new coach leads them to a 25th overall finish after getting trolled by our coach.
vancouver is no good.

With the penguins eliminated, the 3rd round pick they gave the Flames for Stempniak will be 83rd overall, 84th overall, or 85th overall depending on whether the Ducks and Bruins advance to the Conference finals.

This seems quite possible. The Penguins look like they need a coach who can get them to play a strict system. Byslma has always struck me as a bench manager.

Outa thanks, Torrent. The hockey stick ala Vigneault made it even sweeter!
The Vancouver Canucks: "He was ours, but we let him off the hook!!"
He wouldn't have got them this far, but I do think Vigneault may have got them to the playoffs. Hard to say with that banged up, washed up team. Feels good nonetheless.

Awesome! A 3-0 comeback in the first round and now a 3-1 in the second. I don't think keeping the same lineup with a different coach will do anything, the Penguins need some big changes.
I can't really stand the NYR either though. Hopefully they get smoked by Montreal or Boston in the East final.
