I like Abrams, but they should have given it to someone else. Blomkamp or Vaughn.

I wonder how many trucks of cash pulled up to Abrams' house to make this happen.

Its only appropriate now that Disney is the Evil Empire.

The one thing that would explode this thread into 15 straight pages of whether a Borg cube could take on a star destroyer. I can barely imagine the rage levels as a result of it being put onto film.

Wait... What if the Borg cube bumped into the bridge of the Star Destroyer? Or is that only a design flaw in the Super Star Destroyers?

In either case, I think the bridges or control centres should have been recessed back out of the way of intentional or non-intentional crashes. And control panels should have short circuit protection. Far too many fires and exploding monitors.

yep as long as a borg scout ship or other small object doesn't accidentally run into the star destroyer's bridge.

edit: haha, too slow

Could the Borg adapt to the Death Star Superlaser?

No. The Death Star's beam would take out the Borg cube with one shot. They wouldn't even have the opportunity to communicate to the Borg collective about the Death Star's weapon and how to adjust.

Lasers have little to no effect on the shields in Star Trek.

Different technology. Turbo lasers are not lasers.

http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/Tech/

And the Death Star Laser is so powerful that it basically pushes its target into hyperspace

Plus your average Federation star ship has 2 to 10 phaser banks, an Imperial Star Destroyer has a hundred light turbo lasers and a couple of dozen heavy mounted turbo lasers.

Plus the Federation Star Fleet is fairly small at its height it had maybe a couple of hundred capital ships.

The Empire had several thousand to tens of thousands of Star Destroyers alone.

At its height the United Federation of planets had something like 175 planets. The Empire had thousands of planets.

A couple of days into any war, Picard would be shining Palpatines shoes and the hotter woman would become members of a intergalactic brothel.

No. My fictional spaceship could destroy your fictional spaceship.

Also, Stardestroyer.net is probably predisposed to lean towards Star Destroyers. That's like linking to the NRA site for statistics on gun safety.

Probably hundreds.

Personally I would like to see Picard blasted into oblivion and Data turned into a coffee machine.

pffft 24 duel mounted heavy turbo lasers from 1 star destroyer batter down the shields in about 4 seconds especially if they hit the dorsal side (Those dorsal shields buckle in about 2 seconds in every star trek story) meanwhile 72 tie fighters and bombers that can't be hit by a federation ships weapons (no point defenses) blow apart the warp nacelles.

Meanwhile the death star appears over the earth and the emporer makes hip pumping movements because the Federation has pitiful few small fighters that can make a trench run.

Before he destroys the earth he sends down an imperial walker to make peeing motions over the statue of Kirk.
