Also, her father is a scout for the Dodgers and she was born on 9/11/01. Crazy.

Even David Frum, considered by many an architect of contemporary U.S. Conservative opinion, thinks the rhetoric is getting out of hand.

Gee, ya think? Mr. Kelly poses with semi-automatic rifles in his literature and whose campaign slogan was "Elect a Warrior."
There's absolutely no doubt it was intentional, cynical and gratuitous use of aggressive rhetoric.

County supersedes municipality law enforcement in every way in Arizona. County would be in the middle of this investigation and the Sheriff would be front and center. Something this high profile he would be on scene and assume command of the investigation. He would have access to all information and would know all the facts available before making a statement.
|
Nope.
This baby is all on the FBI and has been since the get go....and rightfully so. Theyhave resources and the ability to access things that local law enforcement simply cannot.

Local authorities took custody of 22-year-old suspect Jared Lee Loughner at the scene, law enforcement sources said. The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the suspect had been transferred to FBI custody.

There were earlier reports that someone from the crowd fired at the shooter. I can't find anything now though.
Again, less access to firearms might have prevented this guy from shooting someone on this day, but it still doesn't solve the overall problem of gun violence.

This is how it originally appeared, for anyone wondering:

This should be posted all over the internet.
How can someone be so stupid to say something so insanely stupid after an incident like this? Geez.

It wasn't posted after this shooting. It's several months old and was originally posted in 2010 prior to the November election.
It's still irresponsible at best.

FBI Director Robert Mueller, called in to lead the investigation, echoes in many ways Sheriff Dupnick's sentiments regarding the growing culture of hate. LINK
Also, looks like the search for the second suspect is being called off, and ut is believed Loughner acted alone.

A little shocked to hear he was able to pull all that off with only a Glock 9.

I guess you didn't read further into my post where I said that the FBI would have assumed jurisdictional control over this. That control would have been transferred later in the day, long after the local Sheriff's office had established control and begun the investigation. The Feds don't just sit around drinking coffee waiting for something like this to happen. They have to wait for information to come in from local law enforcement and react accordingly. Only after being notified by local law enforcement that an attempt on a member of congress was made and a federal judge was assassinated would the FBI put together a task force to deal with this. The investigation would have begun immediately, without the FBI involvement, and then transferred when the two agencies had a understand what had just happened. There aren't G-men driving around in Crown Victorias wearing bad suits waiting for something to happen and responding to calls. It takes time for them to react and assign the right people for the job. I suspect a lot of those bodies would also be coming out of Phoenix rather than Tucson.
Also, the FBI provides local law enforcement access to many of the same data bases that the feds use. This is part of the NCIC data sharing program started years ago and includes N-Dex and case files. The feds have the advantage of getting quick warrants cross state lines and have the best and bright in specialists and forensic investigators but they still have to rely on local law enforcement to get a lot of things done, especially when a crime just happens.

Sounds like he had a 30 round extended magazine. With 9mm rounds being known for their "through and through" capabilities, he wouldn't have had to be very accurate at all.

Why?
It's a gun with a 30 bullet clip, imagine had he got the new clip in before he was tackled.

Mostly because they are known to be less than accurate. Did not know they could hold 30 though.

Those banana clips should be illegal. No reason to need 30 rounds for self defense.

I've read a couple US-based forums today (both hockey related). It would seem, oddly enough, that despite the calls for an end to the hate-filled rhetoric that this incident has generated, the the exact opposite is happening. This incident seems to actually be ramping up partisan hatred.
Of course, two web sites doesn't make a good sample size for the whole of the U.S. populace, but it is disheartening.
