Rebecca Marino's run comes to an end, but it was wonderful seeing her so comfortable and enjoying herself on the court. This is a massive boost as the hardcourt season rolls on.

Happy 50th birthday to the player that started my love for tennis.....Pistol Pete Sampras. As a kid he was my favorite, it's such a shame he retired so early, he's only 10 years older than Fed but the gap seems so much wider. Had Pete played as long as Fed, he would have retired in 2011
I'm so sad we missed out on some epic Nadal and Djokovic vs Sampras matches. Here is a match against Federer in 2008 while he didn't win, it proves he still would have been great.
hey at least you get to re-watch many of Rafa's greatest moments in 1080p. all of Fed's prime is recorded in grainy tube TV resolution.
I had a rebellious phase where for some reason I cheered against Pete during his decline, but he got to do what almost no other GOAT will be able to, leave the game with a major trophy in hand. American tennis may never see his equal in our lifetimes.

American tennis had a lineage of great male players that I don't think any country will ever match again. After Roddick its been a dry spell but perhaps Korda will join that list one day.

Jim Courier is sad he wasn't included.

I think it's pretty awesome that 10 years after being ranked #38 in the world, Rebecca defeats two players ranked in the top 30.

So after murdering Denis, Tiafoe goes down 5-0 and set point in 26 minutes to Monfils. He avoided the bagel but this just makes the Denis loss look even worse...

For you oldies, you know who is the the forgotten almost great American? Todd Martin.
Two major finals at Australian and US Open, losing to Pete and Andre. Should have also been in the Wimbledon Final but he blew a 5-1 fifth set lead to Malivai Washington in the semis and lost 10-8, and would have had a good shot to beat Krajicek in the final. Martin had a very solid career, mostly overshadowed by Pete, Andre, Courier and Chang. Good serve, money backhand, good forehand, good volleys, nice old school player to watch.

Monfils was up 4-2 in set 2 and looked to be in great shape only for Tiafoe to rip off three straight games.
Edit: Gael rallies to win in straight sets (needed a tie-break in set 2). Now to watch Bianca.

So are we at the point that we can say Bianca's potential has likely been extremely capped due to her injury proness? It seems no matter how long she's out to recover, every match she has where she comes back, she ends up having some kind of foot injury that will lead to her having to be out for more events.
She needs to get more matches in to regain her form, but every match she has goes to 3 sets, and she breaks down her foot/body, and then can't play for a while again.
Her body just doesn't seem to be capable of keeping up with the pro circuit. She needs to have longevity if she's gonna be as great as she can be.

He was the Stan of his time, except he just never put it together a couple times like Stan did. I think that 5-1 choke was the first time I ever saw someone lose from 5-1 up in the decider. MaliVai still with maybe the all-time out of nowhere run that year.

I think we passed that point a long time ago. I guess she might go on a 6 week run and win another major at some point, maybe a couple, but there's no stretch of time coming where she's the clear best player in the world or anything.
