I'll dance in the streets when Kadri signs somewhere else and that nightmare scenario is finally off the table.

Rebuilding teams it simply doesn't make sense whether or not if he was willing to go there and a middling team you have to ask if he is the piece that puts you in the playoffs. This was the first season his was over a pt per games.... any of the others he didn't even come close to sniffing it. I think both Columbus and Florida are going to regret the ex Flames deals they signed.

I don’t disagree
That’s why he is not signed yet
If he signs for 3 yrs, there will be teams lining up

Andersson for Garland and a 2nd is robbery. No way Garland is worth that much. Wouldn't give a division rival a defenceman like him either.
Klingberg is awful. A big downgrade from Andersson, IMO.

I like this idea of just getting Stastny as a short term stop gap with size to play middle for cheap. You can then ease Monahan back into NHL play on RW instead of throwing him into the fire right away. He probably works better as a wing any way as he can focus more on getting to sneaky areas and getting his shot off.

I get the contract fears but Kadri is a great player...not just points.
Feel like he is being under rated big time ..this isn't Troy Brouwer. Contact might age poorly but he won't be out of the league in two years.
Go watch his Stanley Cup finals OT winner for inspiration...the biggest knock was playoff suspensions which while dumb were just a guy who wanted to win more than anything. I will take that over someone that wants to chill in the playoffs.

Solid player and everything but will never get back to this level of play.
You are bound to essentially overplay a player 2 million more than they should be paid.
Kadri is a good second line player and you can't pay him what you would give a top line player.
He is aging, he plays a physical style of play, this isn't going to age well and I really hope we are not the team that caps out due to a second line center.

There are very few teams that could use a Valimaki at the moment. He is at the point where he needs looks at the NHL level. One of those teams is Philly, where he could timeshare with Cam York on the left side.
Morgan Frost jumps out as a change of scenery candidate. Calgary has a bunch of 90 year old wingers who are hard to displace, though.

I think a puck-mover is the ideal partner for Zadorov at 5v5. Maybe you can pair Weegar with Zadorov on a PK unit.
|
My concern with your 3rd pairing is that both guys would rush at times, but were safe to do so (mostly) because they had solid stay-at-home partners. I'd keep them apart to not bleed chances against, but also to keep the other team defending with a dman who can and will rush.

Garland *is* very good, but I don't know if he makes sense for the Flames. They need someone who's cheaper right now who can get a raise next summer.

is Kakko worth offersheeting like the Canes did with Kotkaniemi?
Would be a bold move with high risk and I wouldn't mind f'ing over the Rangers cap structure.

Milano, Steel. Those are easy ones that don't require surrendering assets. Why not do those.
