But you are correct, it may be the only way that Kadri gets traded for decent value. The only teams he might potentially waive for don't have much, if any, cap room.
|
If what Dissentower just wrote down is the offer, you retain 50%. It's not even a question.
The Leafs will never offer that though, so you're safe.

I wonder what coleman at 2.45x3 could get.
Feel like you could potentially get a 1st+ from the right buyer.
Hes that perfect depth add for a contender.

Stars said today that Seguin will be out 4-6 months. Coleman, while not a C, would be a nice fit.
With Seguin on LTIR, they could fit the cap too.

I heard a rumour they might be interested in Malkin.

When Hagel was cheap (and much younger) he brought in 2 first round picks.
I think Coleman with 50% retention would be a spectacular addition for a contender.

I am sure they would prefer the Flames take Jarnkrok along with Kampf (though on LTIR, he has another season remaining @2.1M ), or maybe they already regret Max Domi and his 0 goals and 6 assists in 19 games (also on LTIR now), but makes 3.75M through the 2027-28 season. Removing Reaves does nothing for the Leafs' cap - they can simply demote him and practically all of it disappears.

A very poorly kept secret at this point. Stars were waiting for something that would open up the cap to do it. 9.5m in LTIR is that something.

No way they want to carry that cap for the next 2 seasons.

If it gets them a cup I'm sure they'd be fine with worrying about this in the summer. Also, Benn & Duchene come off the books I believe.

Im not sure Coleman wants to go anywhere at this point.
He and his family love it here.

Texas in the winter would be hard to say no to.

Im sure he is aware being that is where he is from.....and its pretty likely that would be one of the teams he would have on his trade to list.

I highly doubt Coleman would say no to a trade to Dallas.

I think he means Malkin and not Coleman.
Some players may just be comfortable with their situation. Coleman has 2 cups, and Malkin has 3.

He has a single year after this one. He's likely done after that and can do what ever he wants.
A chance to go to a legitimate cup contender for the next two years vs going down with the sinking ship.

Last time he was a free agent, there were rumours they wouldn't sign him, and I believe he was linked to both Dallas and Vancouver. And then Sid presumably stepped in and told ownership to sign him. But it's been a rough few years since then.

Malkin to Dallas and Crosby to Colorado? That would be a bloodbath in the Central Division

I could see Crosby embracing being the veteran on a rebuilding team in a similar way that Mario and Guerin were him. Especially with all the record he has and could still claim playing on the same team for his whole career.
However, playing on a line with MacKinnon at the four nations might change his mind.
