Maybe being privileged white males in one of the best countries on earth, dealing with a "toxic" workplace, as opposed to starting your career at Foxconn at nine years old making iPhones for 3 cents per hour.

How would Foxconn feel about financing player buyouts, or leveraging cap space to pay for draft picks?

Its all about non-cap spending in today’s NHL…

They probably support Conny holding out for the right Rasmus trade, and holding on to Kadri if the best offer is a fifth from Bradley.

The only way I can see Kadri to the Leafs is if we retain 50% and take salary back to boot, that is going to cost Tree big time.

It's hardly toxic. Expectations are laid out clearly and bad apples are thrown out quickly.

I doubt Calgary retains 50% of a contract that runs that long. It's not ownership's way.

But you are correct, it may be the only way that Kadri gets traded for decent value. The only teams he might potentially waive for don't have much, if any, cap room.

We heard "won't retain period" for much of last season and then they did at the trade deadline, and then retained for two years in the summer on Markstrom.

Not sure we know what the ownership's way is any more.

Easier to stomach retention being 20M below the cap

I would ask but I think prying Cowan out of toronto and first optimistic. We stand a better chance elsewhere. Toronto new york prospects just overrated When kadri is not focused he is liability defensively... it's a fact in his plus minus. When he is on he still has it and has some jam. Needs to play with right players. Fast and backcheck

I dont know if the flames move Kadri until they have a surefired contingency plan.

I doubt they'd be comfortable going forward with only Backlund, whose only signed for one more year, as their only guranteed top 9 center option.
There's not really any realistic UFA options for next year.

Someone would really have to blow their socks off for Kadri, which i just don't see happening.

I could see us retaining big on Coleman though, and sending him somewhere like Dallas.

Coleman is a great hockey player. He deserves to go somewhere and have a chance to win again.

To be fair, I think most owners operate that way. I think there are very few examples of teams that retain a lot of salary for more than a couple of years. Not just owners, but it's a management decision that can come back to bite you in the ass.

And 2 years is a lot different than 4 or 5.

True, but that was for 2 years (about $4M), vs Kadri's current 4.7 years.

I'm not suggesting they will never retain, I just think they'll not retain huge amounts of money. We're talking about $18M here.

I hear you, and it would likely take the magnitude of the suggested trade to get Calgary to even consider it. Talk about buying prospects!!

To add further to this, Feaster was fairly vocal about being open for business in weaponizing cap space, but the compliance buyouts were part of the CBA and completely eliminated the market then.

I do feel that the 'cheap owners' get way more flack than actually deserved.

To get a better return.

Kadri by himself with his contract likely returns little, if anything.

The suggested trade is based almost entirely on cap saved by Toronto.
