The way the team was going last year and how big of a role Wideman had (especially with Gio out) I doubt he would have waived his NMC anywhere

A lot of fans from HF have wanted to do a Russell for Perron deal. Personally I would trade Wideman for Perron but would rather keep Russell or trade him for futures than pick up a pending UFA winger

Year where the team is doing well and has a legitimate shot at the playoffs come trade deadline day: Don't mix up the team, we are playing well, what a steal X was,
Year where they struggle out of the gate: I would have traded every single player over 25 with value last year.
Guys go through ups and downs. It is the players who have shown next to no up that concern me. Backlund seems like the type of guy management just doesnt want to give up on because they know the raw talent is there. He has never really had a solid stretch of games where he can be a difference maker.
Wideman caught fire last year and if you sit him 2-3 games and not allow him to leave the ice until he has hit the net 15 times in a row, he could catch fire again. His defensive game has always been the same. It was his shot getting through on net last year which made him a stud.
Russell still has the potential he showed all of last year. Way to early to give up on him.
Hudler should also spend some time in the box if the rumors of injury are true. He has been useless and even early on when the points were coming, these were points where he had the puck on his stick for less than 2 seconds. Get healthy again and finish off your contract year strong.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, who cites two anonymous league executives, Senators general manager Bryan Murray is serious about acquiring Trevor Daley from the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks’ asking price? A second-round draft pick and either winger Matt Puempel or Shane Prince, reports Garrioch.

I feel bad for Maata.
Has any other player had as much bad luck as him in the first 3 seasons of a career?

I'd also be interested in Chaisson from the Senators. He seems to have taken a step back from his Dallas days, and I'm not sure what the temperature is concerning him in Ottawa.
Issue with Ottawa is that although they have a world of cap space this year, it gets eaten up next year with new and updated contracts for existing players.

BT should really be looking at the Sens as a trade partner. I think they'd have interest in either of Wideman or Russell. The pens would make great trade partners too, I don't know what it would take but I'd love to get Bennett from the pens.

I believe Treliving tried all summer to move Wideman. The 10+ million left on his deal simply makes it a tough trade for Treliving to make and get a return that makes sense for the Flames. It's the reason guys like rumor mongers like Eklund have faded into the shadows as trades just don't happen much any more due to the salary cap and complexity required to pull of trades involving big contracts. There are few rumours now and even fewer that have any merit because they just don't happen often. If you like trades there's only two times a year for you and that's the trade deadline and draft. Anything else and it's just rumours with little substance.

I don't get the fascination with Beau Bennett. Kid is so injury prone and has put up okay-ish numbers despite having opportunities playing with 2 of the best centers in the world.

Eric Duha. told me at PuckTalks in September that the Flames were 'desperately' trying to trade Wideman all summer and may even buy him out at some point.

One of these guys could come in and make a positive impact.
C.Smith, Nashville
C.Wilson, Nashville
K.Palmieri, NJD
A.Roussel, Dal
N.Nedereiter, Min
B.Jenner, Cbj
T.Reider, AZ
N.Kadri, Tor
B.Nelson, NYI
E.Condra, TB
C.Atkinson, Cbj
B.Connolly, Bos
A bit more expensive would be
J.Hayes, Bos
P.Berglund, Stl
J.Huberdeau, Fla
T.Hertl, SJ
I think Russell or Backlund or Hudler + Shore or Agostino or Kulak or Seiloff + a 3rd gives you a good chance at picking up one of these guys.
|
This is a strange list.
You think Berglund would be more expensive than Boone Jenner. You think CBJ is interested in trading Jenner at all?
A small subset of those guys might be available - but I suspect not for a dog's breakfast of pending UFAs and meh prospects.

Actually, lots of guys have tons of injury problems from the last years of junior into the first years of pro. They usually get labeled as busts, but really they just got hurt during key development years and then passed by other prospects.

Heh. It was either stay in Calgary or spend 2 extra days in Edmonton. We all know which is the only rational choice.

It's not just injury with Maata though, it's more of the random stuff keeping him out.
First he was diagnosed with Cancer, then he got the mumps, then the season ending shoulder injury, and now the freak accident where he ends up in the hospital because he was hit into the bench door just as it was opening.

The sign says, "No Bennetts Allowed". We already have one.

I'd want Bennett just to hear Bennett to Bennett... Same reason I want Goodrow (sp) from the sharks.

Very quietly, the New York Islanders are trying a manoeuvre a difficult situation — the possibility of trading Travis Hamonic.
Hamonic, a talented 25-year-old defender who does tremendous things off the ice, is in play, although the exact reasons are private.
One rumour indicated it was because he was unhappy with the unusual Long Island–Brooklyn setup for the team’s players, but a few sources blew that rationale out of the water.
“Nothing to do with it,” one said.
“This was a possibility before games began this season,” said another.

There’s a ton to like about this player. He’s a right-hand shot, top-pairing defenceman with four years remaining on a good-value contract. The average annual amount is $3.857 million, although the actual dollars will be $4.875 million beginning in 2016-17. Teams are scared by term these days, but there’s less worry about someone signed to a fair deal during his prime years.

Several sources indicate Snow is not interested in a picks or prospects type of return. He’s looking for equal-level replacement.

And there you go. If you need a top pairing d-man Hamonic can fit that bill. I would expect half the NHL will be all over that.
Oilers should be first in line.
