McDavid is a true Oiler. Dude is obsessed with his legacy in Edmonton.
He is more likely to sign a league minimum contract for 5 years in Edmonton than sign a max contract in Calgary.

If we’re living in fantasy land, I look forward to July 1 when Conroy threatens to offersheet Connor Bedard on a 5-7 year contract at $20.8M AAV, surrendering their 2027, 2028, 2029, and 2030 1st round picks and force Chicago into a trade (that also includes those draft picks +), and the Flames then still have all the depth draft picks to round out the rest of their pool.
…having just recently drafted McKenna, the Rucks, and some defencemen at the 2026 draft, Conroy is given a crown and is forever known as Supreme Leader Conroy.

I would be all for signing Bedard to a ridiculous contract to play with his cousin.

Funny thing is even if the Flames did the offersheet, in 3 of the 5 years they have extra picks in the 1st round so they would still be picking.

Exactly.
Conroy could do some crazy #%^* and spice things up as soon as this off-season.
I’m sure there’s like a sub-5% chance Bedard would leave Chicago…but who knows, sometimes things go crazy

Why would you want a legacy in a meth-riddled shantytown?
Building a legacy in a market like NY or Toronto would be aiming much higher.
Like if he helped to end Toronto's drought? Think of how he'd be immortalized.
Dude's even low-functioning for a narcissist.

Supreme Leader?
Really? That’s what you’re choosing to go with?

They’ve got Misa and plenty more. You could even offer to take on Nurse’s albatross.
Nurse and McDavid for Misa + Dickinson + a couple other assets.
Would be a hard reset for Edmonton but could be well worth it.
|
So, SJ trades their only young dman, and take on Nurse.
You just turned SJ into Edmonton South.

Why would it force Chicago into a trade? They have a ton of space.

I don't know that you can threaten an offer sheet. You either make one or you don't. And the player still has to sign it to trigger anything.
If they crossed those hurdles, I think I'd take the picks if I'm Chicago. 20% out of a team's overall cap is almost impossible to build around.

In a trade involving real people and not at all made up names, the Bruins have traded Massimo Rizzo and Dalton Bancroft to the Preds for Navrin Mutter. Because it happened after the deadline, none of the players are eligible to play in the NHL. Since the three have combined for one goal and three points in 62 AHL games this season, I doubt that's much of a worry

Burke did it with he wanted Kessel. He threatened the offer sheet, and then worked out a trade. It ended up great for Boston.
Bedard is not going to accept a Calgary offer sheet anyway.

That's funny given Burke's sour attitude when his own player got offer sheeted.
Of course the difference is that Kessel was on the trading block anyway and Burke was just horning his way in between the Bruins and their intended partners.

As good as Bedard is I’d rather have the picks.
