I watched the first episode of 1889 and it didn't really grab me.
Someone tell me if it's worth continuing or not.

Do you like weird mind bending sci-fi? If so, yes.

If not, don't bother.

Again, did you watch 'Dark?'

I'm enjoying 1889 but...its heavy. That show is an investment. You have to be paying attention 100% or dont even bother.

Its not something you can just throw on in the background or light fare for casual viewing.

You have to want it!!

Not necessarily, the two shows are not connected, they're just made by the same people.

The only reason I reference 'Dark' is because its the Writer/Director's sort of first/flagship show and while the subject matter, plot, characters, etc. are completely different and entirely unrelated...the method of story-telling is similar.

By that I mean....everything means something and everything is connected somehow. You might miss one little thing and all of a sudden half the crap going on doesnt make any sense.

I'm not kidding when I say that shows like 'Dark' and '1889' are an investment. You have to be in it and paying attention.

undercoverbrother asked if he could watch 1889 when he was on the treadmill or something as a distraction and then answer to that was a fairly resounding 'nope.'

Well I like shows and movies that play with time so sounds like I might like it
Or I could watch reruns of “spin city”
Hmmm

I dont mean to seem discouraging because personally I think both shows are absolutely fantastic. Sort of why I'm throwing it almost as a disclaimer, because if you go into it without knowing that, you're going to miss things, its not going to make sense and you're going to hate it.

If you like shows that play with time you would LOVE 'Dark.' Its one of the best I've seen at it.

Dark was mediocre, and by the end it was just hitting you over the head with the story over and over and over. I won't be trying 1889 unless it gets really good reviews. But even then, some people liked Dark, so I can't trust them.

I don't mind shows or movies that play with time AND are really well written and performed. I find in the last decade or so time line shows have become super popular, but way too often it's used a crutch, a lazy way to make things more interesting/compelling.

Been liking Tulsa King so far. If you like Italian Mafia with a Breaking Bad kind of feel. Give it a shot.

The first two seasons of Dark was fantastic but got to be a bit much in the 3rd season. Still mediocre is not a word I would ever use to describe that series.

Didn't it bother you they lived in a town with a school(and a nuclear power plant), yet it didn't appear to actually be a town? Like, we never see a store or a main street?

Also, the sound guy with the BWAAAAAA effect can go jump off a bridge. Super irritating.

Really enjoyed season 2 of White Lotus. Even better than season 1. Hilarious finale.

Not really since I'm not overly familiar with Germany having never been there and the show rarely focuses on people or places outside of the story.

It was a great watch, I kept flipping on how each person's ending was going to turn out.

Yep White Lotus S2 was better than the first, not that the first was bad at all. Definitely deserving of all the hype it's getting this time around.

Really interested to see what setting and potential carry-over character(s) Mike White has in store for S3.
