See thats my beef. The Dark Knight, while it's source material is a comic really isn't a comic book movie like say Iron Man (not a slam against Iron Man as I really like that movie too). It's just to bad that the powers that be don't see that.

I always thought that when The Lord of the Rings won as the first fantasy movie to win an Oscar it would have opened them up to selecting movies that weren't all serious dramas, but I've been dissappointed ever since.

exactly....like why cant a movie like Batman win an oscar? because its based on a comic? when really the only difference between The Dark Knight and something like The Departed is that the goodguy wears a cape and the bad guy wears make up. And why not a movie like Superbad? because it has vulgar content? but the violence in No Country for Old Men is ok?

I just saw it for the first time last night, and I give it a 2/10.

Yes, Ledger did do a good performance, but the whole movie reminded me more of the early batman movies instead of the more true to life performance that Batman Begins was.

They should've had more character development on Batman, Alfred, include Fox a little more and not even bothered with the whole Harvey Dent thing. It was pointless.

Glad I'm not alone. Even my undying love of Christian Bale (and Gary Oldman) didn't save this one. After all the buildup I was expecting there to be at least as much meat in the story as Begins, but I found it a predicable, plodding, tedious mess.

The fact that it didn't get a lot of nominations was, frankly, refreshing. I don't think the lack of nominations (so far, it's still early) has much to do with it being based on a comic book character, and more to do with a sloppy screenplay and some weird directing choices (what's with the grumbling Batman voice? Bale's an actor, let him act!). And the sound was terrible, at least in the theatre I saw it in.

Now I want to watch Iron Man again.

I'd still like to see Depp as the Riddler.

I liked it. It wasn't as smooth as Kevin Conroy, but Kevin had what? 15 years? To perfect the voice

This was done intentionally to give Batman a scary, more animal like persona. They didn't want him to sound too nice, more feral like.

It's just too bad they went overboard with it, takes me right out of the movie and almost makes me laugh when I hear the digitally enhanced Clint Eastwood voice. My only gripe with the film.

Exactly. It was a choice, and a heavy-handed one at that. (and I'm pretty sure it was the director's choice and not the actor's). Christian Bale is enough of an actor to be menacing in a mask without "the voice." But the director apparently didn't think just acting would be enough, and it ends up having a forced quality about it. Disappointing.

From what I read, that was all Christian Bale....he worked on the voice for a really long time and there was nothing added to it. Kinda hard to believe when you hear it, but I swear I read something along those lines.

I saw this in Theaters, and again on Blu Ray tonight. The Blu Ray disc is excellent, video is ultra crisp and the audio really comes through strong. The bass is great, especially in the club scene.

As for the movie, I'd give it around a 7/10. Entertaining, tries to be a bit too preachy, goes a little over the top, and could have been about 45 minutes shorter, but a decent flick.

Batman also had to change his voice because bruce wayne is a celebrity. So he altered his voice to the make it unrecognizable and intimidating, made perfect sense to me.

agreed. Bruce Wayne has is a friend of Harvey Dents outside of batman, you would think Dent would recognize his voice if he used it. Theyre trying to make it real. Not like he takes of his glasses and suddenly noone knows who he is...

Bumping an old thread, but it has been leaked that the sequel to The Dark Knight will begin shooting next year. Bale and Nolan will be returning.

Gary Oldman broke the news at Comin Con.

The article I read said he's backpedaled massively since saying something about a third Batman movie coming out in 2012 ... is there some updated info somewhere else? If so, exciting news.

No, all that he said initially was that it was due to begin filming next year for release in 2012, one of the contributors to Ain't It Cool spoke with him afterwards and he was backpedaling, saying more along the lines of "I know they want to film a third one ..." but certainly nothing definitive.
