I would chalk it up to 'get it in stores for the christmas rush' on this one. Sure, they could have started on it before the movie was in theaters, but it can't be that bad. I wont be able to tell until Dec 25 anyways, as I know it's under the tree for me.

mos def.
But that's because the difference in quality is so staggering. And to think: less than 10 years ago, you still had to rewind your movie - sometimes before you even got to watch it (thanks to people who weren't kind).

It's also because flaws are much easier to see too. Try watching the first scenes of Blood Diamond on Blu-ray. When they switch between the mother and father in the hut, it's like night and day with the quality. So it just becomes a distraction.

Watched it again this morning and I really love this movie.
The mistakes in quality were far less noticeable this time as I wasn't nearly as pumped to watch it. And it is really only in the bright day scenes that I noticed any quality failure.

I watched it last night on blu ray and didnt even notice the transition between 16:9 and 2.35:1 guess that just goes to show how much i pay attention to detail
but it was my first time watching it, gotta say that this is a pretty kick ass movie

Watched it all the way through now and if I don't upgrade the TV I should be happy with it.
Brought over 3 friends who haven't seen Blu-ray. One is going to buy BD right away. One is going to buy a new TV for his PS3 and the other wants one, but has to ask the wife

just bought it on Bluray. Thought it looked great! there was one part the last scene of HongKong as the camera zooms out (presumably on the plane) that the screen kinda went weird. But other than that it looked awesome

The Golden Globe nominations got underway this morning with Heath Ledger receiving a supporting actor nod for "The Dark Knight."

You know that when the series is over, you'll get remastered editions and collectors super platinum compilation boxset of ultimate justice, etc. etc. etc. so why bother buying it now in it's stripped down, Christmas rush, contains no special features edition?

Awesome news. I really hope he gets it, and that has nothing to do with the fact that he's dead. He earned it on this one. I'd be willing to place Heath's version of The Joker ahead of even Hannibal, in the top movie villains of all time.

Sadly, it was it's only nomination. I thought Nolan would of at least gotten a Director's nod.

I also thought that Gary Oldman should get some recognition. Very underrated supporting performance overshadowed by Ledger

Batman didn't die. He just disappeared when a burning helicopter crashed into the water like he does every couple of years just like every other superhero.

Somehow I don't think that comics book directors will ever get the awards nominations they deserve

Agreed. Just like comedians (although its getting better). SOme people dont seem to understand that having good comedic timing and just generally being funny is a lot harder to pull off as an actor and especially a writer than dramatic sequences.
