I am also happy for Monahan and happy to cheer for Winnipeg. What makes their success even more delicious is how it's built on the strength of the package of players they got from the Kings. Winnipeg gets their city excited about the team, while Flames fans' favourite dental poster child, Doughty, gets to call out Pretty Lame Dubois and the rest of his underachieving ilk in the media. Looks good on them.

People are beside themselves about it, well a couple.
Both these guys are ex Flames and neither is on a team I like. I don't think it's outlandish to say Monahan has had a better season so far. Wouldn't be shocked if this thread ages poorly for some posters although they will never admit it.
Monahan is likely more boom/bust but he could easily turn out to be the better acquisition... especially with the cost.

I'll admit anything that is proven true.
Your simple Flames record analysis doesn't put anything to rest and makes little sense.

As Dale Carnegie once said, if you could be quite sure of being right 51% of the time, you could go to Wall Street, make a million dollars a day, and marry a chorus girl.

"nope ... record is worse since Zadorov left"

Obviously now that they have moved other players it changes things. Zadorov leaving didn't hurt their record from the day he was traded until the Lindholm trade...no matter how you spin it. They were a game under .500 when he left.
Vancouver wanted to send Zadorov back lol. He is their 6th dman

Yeah this Monahan trade is 100% reactionary. Well... maybe 90% that and 10% panic.
You can tell Cheveldayoff is one of the GMs what was saying, "what? you're doing the deal now? not next month?" that Conny was talking about.

Honestly the Kings falling apart makes me happy.
I hope the situation spirals and they fall short of the playoffs. The Flames should make a run with Kuzzy and take that spot from them.
... and eliminate Vancouver

I love Monahan and I always want the Jet's to do well, except for the Flames games. This seems like a little bit of an over payment and reaction to other teams moves. A 1st is a big pick to give up. I do wonder if Chevy holding really firm and selling the risk aspect of an injury prone Monahan in exchange for a 2nd could have had the deal done. Monahan has played well this season without a doubt but he hasn't been Monahan of old with his pal Johnny at his side. His depth in Wpg will be valuable but I assume his playing time will be reduced.
Either way, I really hope he continues to do some damage and so does Wpg

Reactionary is a better term than Panic. Change all my uses of Panic to reactionary. I think it's an over pay. I don't like the deal, but panic is probably the wrong word.

Just seems challenging how often Wpg gives away 1st round picks for rental's and is not able to sign them. It always seems extra expensive and not rooted in long term building.

Unless WPG extends him, Monny's getting a call from Conny at exactly 12:00AM July 1st.

All arguing aside I agree with you.
Of course it changes things.
But additionally a deeper dive on how the Flames played before and after Zadorov leaving also had other factors like Markstrom's huge leap in goaltending.
All I ever said was taking out a #5 and replacing him with a #7 has to make your team worse.
I didn't say they couldn't or wouldn't win more games. Just that their roster was worse and with that you'd think it would be challenging to win games.

Spent a few hours puttering around in my garage and thinking about this trade some more, and I've come to the conclusion that it's pretty bad for the Jets. I like Monahan as a player, but what are the odds that he is healthy enough to contribute by the playoffs? Even if he makes it to the playoffs in ok shape, when the physicality ramps up in the first round, how many games does he have before he's too banged up to be useful? I'd set the over/under on that at 2.5.
Tough to agree with Blaster, but reactionary does seem like the right term for this. The Jets have been patient in their team building, but like a lot of teams, as soon as the window looks open they lose all patience and make impulsive moves that they'll likely regret in the near future.

So if the Jets go further than the Canucks is it worth it? What do they have to do in your mind? Cup or bust? Hard to accuse someone of copium before a game is played
