To me, it looks like Sutter has worn out his welcome, and the whole team hates him. Maybe doesn't even respect him. He's gotta go, asap, or we are in for a decade of misery.
I don't think it's a fractured room, when I read between the lines. Weegar went out of his way to say "It's a great group of guys".
Lewis (a Sutter favorite for no good reason) so far is the only player I noticed saying he wants to be back.
Clear to me, the owners need to eat the $8m and fire Sutter immediately.
I kind of agree with what you're saying. If you look back in history of where Sutter has coached, his teams are totally tuned in for the first 2 years. After that, the players tune him out. You can't play 82-games of playoff style hockey and expect every player to buy in after playing 2 full years of hard hitting and grinding every game plus the playoffs. If any given team has good core players and wants to win now, Sutter is probably the coach to get for the first 2 years. After that, go with another coach and either plan to reload or plan for another run. Sutter hockey is his way or go F-off. I like to see if Sutter or his replacement can get an East-West style going in addition to the N-S game that we saw all of 2022-2023 season. I think some of the younger smaller players coming up will benefit from this as well.

At least they're being honest unlike those lying liars Johnny and Tkachuk.
What did Tkachuk lie about?
Both of these guys leaving is on management, Johnny should have been extended off season 21 and he was willing, Tkachuk was given a walk away contract to save a few bucks on the cap to keep Michael friken Frolik

I don't know if I'd read too much into Backlund, Lindy et al. They just had one of the most frustrating seasons a team can have, that literally just ended.
They're probably frustrated and disappointed and want to take time to make their decision. Sutter could be a big part of it, but I'm sure there are other factors, too.

Lindholm and Backlund saying they don't want to extend is probably a good thing for the team. I like both guys, especially Backlund, but they should both also bring back good value in a trade either over the summer or at the deadline next season.

That's an accurate representation of what they said.
Good grief guys, it's only been a couple hours and now they 100% don't want to extend. The fanbase is 98% of why this stuff gets off the rails. Keep the facts straight at least for more than a couple hours.

Did they not say that? I haven't had a chance to watch the videos yet. That's just what I thought based on reading comments in here.

Since his arrival here in Calgary he has shown that he is anything but a quitter.
What a weird comment.
You’ve never been emotionally done with a job?
I’m sure he’ll speak to the media. He doesn’t want to do it today. For a whole host of reasons, I’m sure. Among them, he doesn’t have to if he doesn’t want to. It’s probably a sore spot today.

And he continues to say good things about Calgary, Johnny leaving, Sutter staying, pick your poison on why he decided to move on but it doesn't make him a liar.

One of the more interesting garbage day media events I've seen with this team. I think the writing is most definitely on the wall for both Lindholm and Backlund. Backlund saying it's the most frustrating year of his career, and you don't say that at his age without taking a look at the success other players are having elsewhere and considering your own future.
Lindholm, well he sounds like me when I know I'm going on vacation and I only have a week left. Definitely sounds like a guy counting his days until he is gone.
As cold as it sounds, I hope both are traded at the draft and not allowed to head in to a UFA season with no extension in place. Both have extremely high value at the moment and this team would be wise to take advantage of that. Love both players, but clearly they aren't part of the future.
LOL @ Weegar's comments about the arena. Nice to hear a player who signed long-term say it out loud.
Garbage day pressers are always the most engaging and interesting, but man this year was something else.

In my view, if these two players truly won't resign.
if they are not moved during the summer that's a mistake.
I can just see it, Flames are in the playoff race and choose not to sell at the deadline.

Exactly! I heard they wanted to win, was a frustrating season and no they didn't say "yes sign me up!!!" just wait and see what's offered or happens.
Sounds like players approaching UFA status, keeping their options open.

I agree. The Flames put a lot of effort out their most nights. Unfortunately, that effort seemed to be towards creating nice advanced stats, as opposed to actually putting the puck in the net. We habitually dominated the other teams in zone time and shots....Hooray!
That's silly too.
Shot volume as a strategy can and should be questioned, I think it's one of the biggest issues this season.
But the reason for the strategy shouldn't be questioned unless you have some insider knowledge that Sutter and his staff didn't aim to win games this season.
