It's almost like you need to give a guy 10-15 games (and hopefully some consistent ice time) to really get in a rhythm and adjust to NHL speed.
Nothing is more frustrating than giving skilled propsect 2-3 games and going "He wasn't impressive and didn't produce, send him back down".
Grinders can come up and immediately be noticeable, because they aren't really adapting to the speed. They just need to go out and hit everything that moves.
But skilled guys need time to adjust, making plays at the next level needs to be done quicker, and you need some reps at NHL pace to adjust to that speed.

Agreed. It won't show up on the score sheet, but those are the plays that win games (as we saw). The kind of plays those guys up North don't care about as there are no points..and they don't come back that deep to start with.

And don't discount Andersson on this play too ...
He moves the puck up the wall, sees that Gaudreau gets it then gears up and heads up ice knowing Gaudreau was going to do something with it.
If he doesn't catch up to Lindholm it's a simple two on one and a much more straight forward coverage for the Stars.

don't kid yourself- we've seen it enough to know that if 97 was 13 there, he'd be getting the 2nd assist (and Lindholm would be getting an envelope with 50 bucks in it as a token of appreciation)

For sure, but you have to do the little things right to turn 2-3 games into 15, and I don't mean light it up.

His last pass was super confident and the right play, too. Lots of people would yell shoot there. He saw he was looking at a possible deflection plus the goalie was pretty square to him.

Such an exciting game, to echo many this is one of the best kind of wins.
Loved to see Markstrom's reaction at the end, too. He was genuinely happy and excited for the win. It's obviously hard to read the state of the locker room, but these guys all love playing together and for each other.

When you look at Jamie Benn (14) and Anderson when Gaudreau has the puck, Anderson is deeper in the Calgary zone. Then he puts in the full effort to make an impact on the goal, while Benn does the lazy skate up ice and arrives back after the goal is scored.
That contrasting effort on that play is the difference between winning and losing.

97 wouldn't be there. He'd already be at the opposition blueline watching Pulju or Moto there turning the puck over.

Some goalies react badly to being pulled. Not that I was expecting Markstrom to sulk, just glad to see his reaction was as happy as it was.

Starts the play from his own goal line, short-handed, and is the odd man in the 3 on 2 rush. Pretty impressive play by him.

Random question....
Is it just me or are the cameras in Dallas subpar compared to other areans? Picture quality always seem off to me when watching games in Dallas.

Not sure if this is what you are referring too, but to me it seems like the camera placement / angles are the lowest I've noticed in the NHL. So you capture more of the lower bowl audience in the shot (you notice it big time when the crowd stands up), and is just a less optimal angle to view the play IMO.
Not sure if that also impacts overall picture quality.

I notice it mostly on their "main cameras", the ones down at ice level seem much better. I was watching on a new TV so wasn't sure if it was that or just bad cameras. Went upstairs and it was no better. Then I recalled noticing in the past but it's been so long since we played in Dallas last I had forgotten.
