Holtby has been bad for three straight regular seasons...plus he is playing goal for the Canucks minus Tanev

Vs. the Capitals

As long as Rittich is good with the situation. If he isn’t (and Treliving probably knows based on exit interviews and how he handled Talbot taking over) then I’d trade him for some cap room and sign a less expensive backup: Greiss, Crawford, Dell etc.

Not totally accurate. The Canucks were VERY committed to Green's system. They bought in and they played the right way. They're just not very good at it. The team lacked players who could make sure that when the puck was exiting the zone, it was on a Canucks stick and not a dump out. Other than Hughes and Myers no one could do it at all. It's why I am a bit excited for Juolevi, he looks like he may have that ability.

Yotes have pretty solid team D

Ask a Caps fan. They've been absolutely terrible in regards to helping out their goalies since their cup win. A majority are of the opinion Holtby will likely bounce back.

The Flames will need Rittich next season.

I'll go one step further and say that teams will likely benefit from having a solid #3 goalie. If the NHL is not going to shorten the season at all, games will be pretty much every other day. With that much hockey in a short period of time one of your goalies is going to get hurt.

And Markstrom has gotten hurt in the stretch runs of both the last two seasons and the play-offs.

Rittich will still be a huge part of the Flames success if they have any.

Haynes:

Jacob Markstrom will be 35 in the final season of his six-year deal. That’s the same age as Mike Smith when he began his two seasons in Calgary. Three years ago, Pekka Rinne won the Vezina Trophy at 35. Henrik Lundqvist is 38.

If Markstrom’s age is your concern, it shouldn’t be.

About the same as Holtby's the previous season, which you said was a bad year.

Pick your lane.

I have no strong feelings about this signing. I like the Flames having good goaltending, but goalies are so hard to predict from one season and one team to the next that I feel like I'll need to wait a few months into next season before I know whether to be happy or not. It does look like it's probably a good move though.

I wasn't positive about the whole thing, but I can't fault that contract. Hoping this goes really well for us!

I’ve always wanted a huge goalie here. I don’t count Smith.

That makes it pretty ugly to buy-out. He'll be a Flame all the way through.

Not to be a total cynic, but what do those SB mean for potential end of contract buy outs?

I understand all of that, which is why I looked at veteran goalies. I’m a little concerned about Rittich’s mental makeup. So have the Flames from time to time.
