Did the same thing in Boston too. The off ice Dougie hate has no merit as far as I’m concerned.

I think where there's smoke, there is often fire. You can still be fun on camera, take part in charity events, be fun to hang out with, and then act like a petulant child in a locker room setting. Look at PK Subban-he's the best guy in the world, donates to charity with time and money, spends time with sick kids,etc-but he's never been popular with his teammates. Look up "PK Subban fight" on YT, and most of the videos are him fighting his teammates. That's the big reason Montreal let him go.

I dunno man, I work in construction and there are groups(who get jobs) that judge you on your capacity to drink and "party" all night. I've been distancing myself from that group in the last years and though I don't have a problem finding jobs, my relations to that group have fallen. You don't want to "party"? you might be outed as a petulant child.

For sure, there are always 2 sides to everything. I wasn't that impressed with his play on the ice given the hype he came with, but it's unfair to assume that he was a problem. He was apparently not happen at the end of the season, but he might have had a good reason. We can't assume all of his team mates were saints.

The media has a penchant for overdramatizing things. Eric Francis might have overseen Dougie in an argument with someone and that becomes a "locker room rift"

I thought it was obvious Hamilton was the guy that had to go and as much as I think he is a great player I just didn’t like the guy but obviously I am nowhere near the room.
End of the day we have a 6’5 right shot Dman that had 4 40+pt seasons before he was 25 yet he was also traded twice. You don’t trade a player like that typically ever so there were reasons. Both the Calgary and Boston media characterized him as more of a loner which is fine. I think when he apparently pouted when the Flames waived Freddie and then skipping garbage bag day in 2018 were key drivers to move him.

Dougie also skipped out on the year-end meeting with Treliving / garbage day / media availability, and then wouldn't return calls for over a week according to Loubardias.
I think it's safe to say there was a significant issue between the player and the team over something.

Don't think it was ever a problem with his teammates. Management didn't like his GAS, much like Bruins management didn't either.
Makes me wonder if Dougie doesn't have some problems with old school hockey types running teams or authority in general? Who knows.

Hamilton comes across as someone who didn't get a long with Hartley's dickish attitude and didn't want to go out and get ####ed up like a lot of his teammates.
Probably want more Dougie's on the team than less.

I don't know Hamilton, or any of the other players personally, so I don't feel that I can make definitive statements about their character. My primary concern with respect to the Flames is building a team that can win.
And in that regard, I definitely DO NOT want 'more Dougies on the team than less'

This has to be the worst take on Hamilton. He forced a trade from Boston to sign for less in Calgary. He obviously doesn't just care about getting paid.

Boston apparently offered him 5.5 and he signed here for 5.75 so he didn’t sign for less. He forced his way out for whatever reason (they refused to sign his brother is my guess).

Ah yes, cause point-per-game defenseman who actually show up on playoff scoresheets are exactly what the Flames have too many of. The guy has been a beast and better than any player the Flames have not named Tkachuk for the last year and a half.

For 250k less? Really? Come on. He went from being the potential top pairing defender in Boston with Chara (or Krug) and forced their hand to get traded to another team.
He went from Boston to Calgary. I'm also convinced that Treliving was favored to acquire Hamilton because Sweeney wanted to screw over Chiarelli.
Hamilton seemed pretty content with playing and getting paid by the game he loves, but nothing more, nothing less. It's just my interpretation. Just look at what AC just posted, there just wasn't something clicking between Dougie and Calgary.

1.5 years would equal the start of calendar 2019.

Player B is Dougie
A is Monahan
C is Gaudreau
I am not sure many would argue that Monahan brings more to the table outside of point production than dougie does, so it seems pretty easy to argue that Dougie has been superior/more impactful. Gaudreau has outproduced Dougie point wise, but not be an enormous margin, and Dougie plays the more important position. That one is debateable imo.
I already knew it was bad, but digging through the stats post all star break last year is just... extremely disappointing. If you locked this to February on I believe Dougie would actually out produce both of them. Sometime has not been right with Gaudronahan since February 2019.

A good season for points does not change what he is.
Two teams have given up on already, despite a world class toolbox, bordering on a unicorn toolbox. The conversation was about players you win with, and the evidence is that two teams have already decided he isn't one.

Our current collection of players hasn't won #### either. seems like an odd take.

Boston wanting to sign him and him refusing being turned into "given up on him" is such a joke.
