CBC should hire Bob Hartley for Coach's Corner 2.0

Fired for his remembrance day episode. Who would have predicted that?

Yeah...I actually don't think firing him right now was the right move, it's going to do more to divide people right now then it will do to help bring people together.
Should have finished the season and let go of him then.

Don should have just worn blackface on air and he probably would still have a job.

Doing this on Remembrance Day, too.

Because people shouldn’t be forced to think one way or the other. Cherry shouldn’t have to apologize for anything either, and I’m glad he didn’t. He shouldn’t be shamed into apologizing if that’s how he really feels.
I don’t agree with Don but I am very staunchly against firing people because of a poor choice of words. He didn’t drop an N bomb or single out any specific group based on anything other than “new Canadians”, which is a very broad term. I feel like people are making some assumptions here, rightly or wrongly, but they’re still just assumptions.
Again, don’t think what he said was right, but I will defend the fact that he shouldn’t be fired over this.
Sportsnet is weak and I will not watch another Hockey Night in Canada broadcast as long as it is on their network.

Fired on Remembrance Day. At least they waited until the ceremony was over.
Well I guess Remembrance Day will now be remembered as the day CBC took down a Canadian icon.

Divide the country?
This will be forgotten about next month.
We'll be back to talking about pipelines and the failing economy and whatever scandal from Liberals/Cons/UCP.

Yes, retroactively do it 20 years ago for an episode 3 days ago. Brilliant subversion!!

How about this?
He thinks Canada is the greatest nation
He believes Canadians owe a debt of gratitude to veterans
He believes that people who choose to be part of Canada should support veterans
(and yes that includes immigrants)
Buying a poppy is an easy way to do that.
These statements are all on brand for him.
His family immigrated, assimilated, fought for the country. He has always been pro Canada and pro veterans
People are spending so much time inferring and interpreting, getting outraged about the results of their own inference
People could spend time as well to consider his intent and not clumsy execution
He did not spell out to whom he took exception. Based on his words, he did not spell out taking exception to all immigrants in general, but he did appear to take exception to people that he perceives don’t support veterans

You keep talking about assimilation. The whole idea that people who have abided by the customs and laws to get into this country should be more like you, and value the same things you value, or be deemed unappreciative IS a racist concept. It assumes your way is the right way and the better way.
Many immigrants do not understand remberance day and many that come here are poor and typically aren't in the position to donate no matter how little money it is. Do you have to buy a poppy to be appreciative of soldiers? There are plenty of things to donate to such as cancer, abused women, drug addiction etc. Where do you draw the line? Is someone who wears a poppy more or less Canadian then someone who donated to children's hospital? If you don't donate to kids sport at the grocery store do you then hate children?
The fact is that he is looking at a subset of "you people" who since 1970 are largely a visible minorities and claiming them to be ungrateful and less Canadian. Fight over semantics all you want but what he said was stupid and wrong.
Like I said previously. I like him I hope he keeps his job but he deserves all the flack he gets over this. People who are not racist I'm their everyday life can do racist things.

Just replace Coach's Corner with Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonette talking trash about the NBA and Philly fans.
