They are celebrating when they win. Even if it doesn’t happen with high frequency fans like it when the home team wins. It’s for the fans, and the quality of a home-ice celebration for the fan base should not be gauged on how well or poorly the team plays out the season.

1. I really thought I'd be the only Flames fan there but wow, I was impressed by the turnout. Flames fans scattered throughout the crowd, was cool to see.
2. I feel like I saw just as much Whalers gear as I did Canes gear. Cool to see Hartford get some love, albeit, sort of awkward as the history of the Whalers moving to NC is not a pretty one from a Whalers perspective.
3. This was my first Canes game and the crowd was...interesting. It wasn't a packed house by any means but there are a nice group of hard core fans that seem to really enjoy their team.
4. Saw a decent amount of Ferland jerseys, which was nice. A few Hamilton ones, but def more Ferland ones.
5. The 'tribute' to Peters/Noah/Doc/and Lindy was pretty pathetic. I wasn't expecting anything major, but they put something on the jumbo tron and maybe 10% of the crowd stood up and clapped. The rest didn't even notice or just booed.
6. There was definitely some heat in the crowd and people absolutely hated seeing Doc, and Lindy and Noah score. A lot of "are you effing kidding me" type comments.
7. Dougie and Ferly looked really good. Hamilton looked to be playing with a chip on his shoulder and seemed to be everywhere. I have nothing against him and it's too bad it didn't work here, so I want the guy to succeed but ugh, it seems like he's played his two best games of the year against us.
8. Brodie looked off. Brutal turnover that led to the first Canes goal and seemed to be fighting the puck.
9. Johnny looked ok, wasn't dazzling as much as he has been but also had some really good looks too. He also has a ton of buzz as the crowd was really nervous every time he touched the puck.
All in all--fun time and was awesome to see the boys win. I'd been on a tough streak with them going back to the last few years that I'd been living in DC.

I noticed this too and I think its a fairly common observation.
The fact of the matter is that the two games against Calgary will likely be Dougie's best of the season, but if he played with that kind of fire on a more regular occasion he'd actually be the player people have been thinking he is.
I've always been a fan of his, but hes one of those guys that if they're not bringing it then they're not doing much of anything.
Either one of the best players on the ice or more or less invisible.

I find the Canes celebrations embarrassing from a professional sports team but I will say if their fans enjoy it then I don't have an issue with them continuing to do it. I have to agree with Francis on 960 in regards to Lindholm. If Dougie Hamilton comes back to Calgary scores a goal, the Canes win the game and he mocks a Flames celebration mercilessly like that we would be all over him as classless. I like that Lindholm has some fire in him and all but from a non-Flames fan point of view that was a little overboard.
There's some real salt over at Canes Country in the comments in the post game thread, too:

Still won the trade. I’ll take ferland and Dougie over hanifin and Lindholm any day of the week. Screw lindholm and his trash ass attitude! Classless punk

Good thing i didn’t watch that game because I’m getting pissed off just reading about it. Bitch move mocking the end game celebrations when we won’t be playing them any more this season. Would love to see someone take Lindholms head clean off. Trash player reaping the benefits of playing with Gaudreau. We all know he’s a 30 point player by himself

Lindy and Ryan use to be upstanding players, what the hell happened to them to make them such punk ass trash b*tches?
I find it hilarious that a bunch of grown adults who are passionate about a bunch of twenty somethings chasing a rubber disc on a sheet of ice while wearing matching clothes think that the Canes win celebrations are immature or dumb.
I am fully comfortable with the fact that my fandom in itself is completely immature. Me going crazy and cheering or getting upset over what happens with my team is ridiculous, and I laugh at many of the reactions I’ve had over the years.
It’s all silly stupid fun. And if I am happy acting so silly and stupid, I am very reluctant to judge someone else’s silly stupid fun.

If fans want to boo a players return and act classless with jerseys don't be shocked when the player gives you the "middle finger back".
I think its a mutual thing.
I dont know why Lindholm and Hanifin were deemed expendable by Carolina but I'm guessing it had a lot to do with internal budget and players looking for fair contracts on a middling to poor budget team at the time.
So its seems likely that they werent all that happy being shipped out at the time but under the circumstances its gone rather well.
I can totally understand wanting to stick it to your last team/organization.
"You dont want me? I'm going to come back and kick your ass and make you regret it."
Thoughts and prayers. Move along. Thanks for '06 Carolina! You did us a solid there.

Dougie did come back and score a goal...Flames fans were respectful and cheered him when they did a little tribute on the jumbo.
I am amused by how many posters over there are convinced that Lindholm is simply leeching off of Gaudreau. He is actually super smart, tenacious and crazy good along the boards. Lindholm has earned all the accolades he gets this season and he has become one of my favourite players.

It's also quite the diss at his old linemates, who are pretty good hockey players.
