Don't care about how you feel on the other stuff. Think what you want.

Rittich has been shelled has last 4 games since he’s been given a bit of adversity, and failed miserably at it. Gillies fought the puck in his first couple games and just doesn’t look ready for the pressure either.

Is Smiths stellar season covering up cracks? Sure, and that’s an issue, but at this point who cares. Continue to cover the cracks into the playoffs and deal with the bigger fixes in the summer.

All the arguments that exist will last through the summer about a variety of things that get hashed all over this board, but in the immediate term the team has it infront of them still, and the team has to get in the playoffs and for better or worse somehow, and they need these goalies to play lights out for another few games and then pray that Smith gets back in and continues where he left off.
No, man. Break it down goal by goal and tell us all how Rittich is the guy at fault.

The first two goals were a lot of time and space gifted to the Avs and the last 2 were practically unstoppable.

The Calgary Flames did not lose this hockey game, the officials took it away from them. F the crooked officiating in this league...

Referee baiting a coach. Sending the best player off after he gets a stick towards the head?

Not the reason we lost but that was the best refereeing since Escape to Victory. How can the NHL tolerate biased garbage like that. Even the Colorado commentary crew were scratching their heads.

Mediocre coach, mediocre results.

It's been the same for almost two years. Nothing has changed. Unfortunately, I fear the Smith injury might buy him some time next year as well. I hope Treliving is smarter than that and cans this laughing stock of a coach. Otherwise, get ready for the same pathetic, inconsistent performance while we waste crucial years of our core. Sounds fun.

Fire Gulutzan.

Team save percentage 16th
Goals for per game 20th
Goals against per game 16th
Penalty minutes Worst in the league
Penalty minutes against Most in the league

So we are literally the definition of a bubble team but then for some reason the referees go ham every game we play on both teams? Whats going on here?

All the teams will have some ebs and flows in the final 20 games. Key is ensuring you don't lose in streaks.

Except there are about 4 teams going for 1 playoff spot, so at least one of them will go .700 to finish the season. The Flames are close to a playoff spot, but have to climb over a number of teams to do it. That means they need to go on a longer winning streak, as the odd win does nothing as some of those teams are sure to win too.

The team needs to start playing like their jobs depend on it, because they probably do. Who knows, we might even make the playoffs that way.

Not content to just shoot themselves in the foot, they need to shoot each toe off first.

The game turned on the Tkachuk penalty in the 2nd. Had he just got off of that guy, who knows where the game goes. Instead momentum was handed right back and the Flames response to adversity was more adversity.

I do take issue with people suggesting this team is mentally weak or fragile. How many of these guys were fragile a few years ago? Yeah, they fall apart pretty easy these days. But there's something else at play there.

If Smith isn't coming back soon, I think the Flames are going to end up on the outside looking in. I know there are other issues around how this team is playing but if Calgary continues to get this current level of goaltending, well, I think they may be done. Rittich and Gillies are, for the most part, not THE guys. Not yet at least. Maybe they need more time. Maybe they are perfect for a back up role. Who knows right now. I have a bad feeling Smith is going to be gone for some time yet.

As for that game last night, I actually turned it off after the 2nd period. I never do that. I'm always thinking, "it's not over, the boys can come back and win this thing." There was no doubt in my mind that they weren't coming back last night.

Elliott Friedman last night was trying to explain what is going on with the Flames this year but couldn't. He said it's inexplicable how fragile they are when facing adversity. He watches them a lot and doesn't have any answers.

Listening to the fan this morning, I was reminded of the one word that represents this iteration of the flames.... CRUMPLE

for this team to make it, they will have to figure out what mental toughness means, and the ability to weather a storm and rip momentum back from a surging opponent.

You don't just learn that at game 63 of a season. This team does not have it, and for all the faults of the teams in the hunt with them, the ducks/kings/sharks/etc, all have this in heaps.

If I were a betting man, despite having an excellent schedule of opponents over the next 7, I would bet they'll manage 0.500 point wise.

It’s the leadership. Which includes your coaches, veterans, and captains.

How to fix:

Head Coach Gulutzan - gone.

Assistant Coach Cameron - gone.

Assistant Coach Jerrard - gone, although maybe you let the new head coach pick.

“C” Giordano - keeps “C”

“A” Brouwer - Traded, Demoted to AHL, or bought out. He can’t be on the team next year. This “A” is given to Tkachuk. We need emotion in our leadership to act as a counter balance to Monahan and Giordano. Balance is good.

“A“ Monahan - keeps the “A”

None of Glass, Stajan, Stewart, Brouwer, Versteeg, Bartkowski are brought back. Sure, give Glass an AHL deal if he wants one because that league still plays “that game”.

Doing this challenges the younger players on the roster, the ones who actually drive play, to take more ownership. Sure, you’ll maybe get hit with the odd hiccup - but it’s a learning process. Hire a strong, proven coach who has won to help set the tone. Yes, I’m talking Darryl or I’m talking AV when he becomes available. Someone of that quality.

Tkachuk needs to grow a brain. I thought he got the STUPID penalties out of his system earlier in the season. Use your head. Why would you give a killer power play like Colorado's more time?

The ref is out to lunch on the Gaudreau call, he was justified in screaming at him.

Is it just me, or has GG taken the Flames as far as he can? If that is the reason to fire Hartley, then Tre needs to realize the same for GG.

Yup GG has taken them to wildcard or just out of wildcard spots. Now its time to take the Flames to the division titles and winning playoff rounds. Honestly think AV is the next coach of the Flames.

Tkachuk is a competitor but I wouldn’t give him an ‘A’. Not yet. He has some growing to do.
