Wow the standings are tight at the break. 2 points separating 2nd and 5th in the Pacific with 4 teams tied for the last wild card. It's going to be an exciting finish to the season!

I actually like GG but the coaching decisions are frustrating me lately.
It's hard to complain about a 7-0-4 record in last 11 but ffshow many times have we blown leads or not won a game because our PP is garbage?
We need something to change if we want to make any noise this year - a winger to bolster the top 9 and PP or maybe just get a new PP coach.

Not trying to be funny but he looks like he has mono. He has not been right since he missed an empty net in OT against Montral.

So him handling the puck like a grenade in crunch time is not surprising.

Yes for as vaunted as fans want to believe Hamilton is, the Flames organization, certainly disagrees.
Flames do not trust Hamilton to be the last man back. This isn't crazy old Tinordi talking, this is actions of the Flames coaching staff. They will not put Hamilton out on a 4-1 PP or in overtime.
Why is that? Because he can't handle the puck well enough or be trusted to provide snuff out D.

Yeah, even going to the washroom was interesting with these folk.
When that OT goal was called back, my fiancee was jumping up and down all giddy - which could have gone differently with that crowd.

Where is the killer instinct? It gets distinguished by the horrible power play.

Yup! TBH, the two that went in seemed like unfortunately blown coverage could have prevented it - but still missed huge opportunities to pull it back

GG is on fan 960 now saying he isn't that upset with the result.... that playing this many games in 4 nights and a 'push by a good team' this result might be expected. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The oil a good team? So casual about it. Loser mentality.

You have to wonder if the Flames players notice and think "well they don't get fired up either way, so I don't really give a crap."

Calgary has always been known as one of the quieter buildings/crowds in the NHL. Save for the 04 run. People have always sat on their hands. Not sure if it's cause the city itself is so conservative but the fact remains it's dead quiet. I mean even on the NHL video games back in the day. You'd hear the comments from the game announcers on how the dome was known as the "library".
In the 90s it certainly was called the library.

Calgary has been as loud as anyone in recent playoff games...we just don't get all excited for no reason
Oilers can party like they won the stanley cup...this game does nothing for their team except possibly worsen their draft position

Why can't we ever give credit to the opposition?
They came into the season odds on favourites to win the cup.
Hardly a loser mentality.

After getting up 2-0 on them, they should have been able to keep them down. They are losing to teams that are themselves rattled and playing terrible - LA, Buffalo and Edmonton. That is definitely worrisome.
I liked Lomberg though. Backlund I thought was just awesome in the 3rd. Tkachuk had a really strong game. Disagree a bit with Brouwer being terrible. He was just 'fine' - not great, not terrible.
Hopefully they find a way to regroup after this break. They haven't looked good since the last break ended.
|
Brouwer made a great play on Tkachuk's first goal, the way he trapped it with shin and knocked it to his stick to set up Tkachuk. He was bad on the Oilers second goal letting his man Kassian go.

except they are in actuality a dog #### team and we have lost to them 7 times in a row
that is the definition of a loser mentality

I thought it was a highly entertaining hockey game. I wish every game against the Oilers could be entertaining like this. That OT was an emotional roller coaster like I haven't seen in a while in a hockey game with incredible scoring chances in both ends. Of course we should have won this game, it should have been put away early in the second period, but as far as losses go, this one was not bad.
Also, we gained a point on three of the teams we are currently fighting since the OOT was pretty good. The silver lining though is that the Oilers started feeling a Little better about themselves, putting any thoughts of change on hold. This would have been accomplished if we would have won in OT or SO as well of course, but glass half full. The PP issues are terrible of course, but I'll be happy to take this point and move on. It sucked a lot more to give up the extra point to the Kings as they are in direct competition with us. The mighty Oilers are 11 points back, so we might as well give them a reason to put any firings on hold for a bit.
