Of course it is.....its just when it is applied that matters now, and that was not late enough to warrant a thing...if the head was hit, sure its a penalty and maybe more but beyond that, this is still the NHL and bodychecking is still a very legal act.
Looks like his head got jarred quite a bit on that play. Mono was slow to skate to get up and get back to the bench. I hope we get an update soon. I sure hope it's nothing serious but the way his head snapped back worries me.
His shoulder wasn't drooping though, which is usually the sign of a separation.
Still don't think it was dirty after watching the replay. Not even late compared to a lot of hits you see. Regehr's feet weren't moving and it was shoulder to shoulder - not from behind.
...he takes a full stride after the pass, that is pretty much text book late.
Nope, sorry, he comes from the "blindside". He only gets his shoulder in front of him at the very last second to not make it an illegal check. It was also pretty late. The puck is almost at the boards by the time he makes his open ice hit.

Has anyone noticed that SN needs to turn up the ice sounds/mics? Watch a TSN or CBC broadcast, you can hear the boards and skate blades and players a lot better. SN almost sounds muffled.
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I don't mind the mics turned down. All you hear on the NBC broadcasts is skate noises and it drives me nuts. I'll be in the other room and still hear it. it's like basketball when all you can hear is sneaker squeaking.
Yeah, even in slow mo, it's still a little late, but part of that is Monahan admiring his pass. He's gotta keep his head up a little there.

Hahaha, what are you guys smoking? We talk about a bodycheck shoulder to shoulder/head for three pages then a guy comes in and calls it a hit from behind and another guy calls that guy an idiot and says he was directly in front of him.
Can I please have some crack, fellows?

Yeah looking at that replay he is on the side...but certainly not from behind.
