Pretty easy when your number 1 goalie has a 5.3 GAA.

Truculent!

Edmontons goalies at even strength have a save percentage of .772 when Ales has been on the ice.
Plus minus is the most useless stat in hockey.

Kravchuk on Yakupov. "If he's not going to change his game, he has no future. He has no team game." Pretty damning assessment. #Oilers

Was Kravchuk the guy who recommended to Conroy the Flames take Rafikov?
Is Kravchuk on the Flames payroll? Cause by the things he's been doing lately, it sure seems like he is

Which is astonishing, given how good the whole team has been in front of said goalies.

Thing is, the 80s Oilers were so talented that a lot of the stars didn't have to develop two-way habits (Gretzky, Anderson, Nilsson, Coffee). So the root of the problem is trying to relive the glory years without anywhere near the talent of the 80s Oilers, in a league that has changed dramatically since those days. The Oilers legacy is frankly a handicap at this point.

I agree, if you are only including traditional stats (goals, assists, points, face off percentage). If you start including things like Corsi, Fenwick, zone starts, etc then no... +/- is not even close to the most useless stat in hockey.

I hope Tavares lights them up tomorrow. He's Fricken due for a big game. (Yes he's on my fantasy team haha)

As has been said Hudler is a better player and he get's $1 million less per season. Hemsky reminds me a lot of a less talented Huselius.

As we saw with our stars, when you have guys who don't believe they have to do what the 3rd and 4th liners have to do, you have a huge problem and only trading them seems to have solved it in our case.
|
You forgot to mention Eberle. Even he looks like he's being spoiled as he's kind of regressed. You can't treat these kids like elite stars until they put in the work and actually produce like an elite player in the NHL for a term. Unfortunately these kids have been handed the keys to the car before they got their drivers licenses and they have developed bad habits.

Oilers forwards are awesome in their own zone and don't turn over the puck 10 times a shift...all the goalies fault
you guys are just as blind as Oilers management

I can't wait until the Oilers get another goalie only for him to get lit up too.
It's going to be magical ... a magical, magical time

Doubtful, If they get another goalie they will start getting wins. If you watched every oilers game you would see how beyond bad the goaltending has been.

Outside of the last game (even then only for about 15 minutes) they've been outchanced significantly

Actually I've seen most of their games, and it's not just goaltending by a longshot.

Never said that it wasn't just goaltending, but he defense hasn't been nearly as bad as it was the last few years. If they bring in a true number 1 goalie wins will start coming. Even last night against Pittsburgh they probably win that game with a competent goalie.

On one hand you're saying it's not the only problem, but then you say if they had a different goalie they'd be winning games.
It's not just the defense, and it's not just the goalies........it's both. Rewind back to the Toronto game where on one of Lupul's goals, all 5 Oiler skaters on the ice were on the same side of the ice! That's something you usually see in minor hockey, not on a professional team.
Taylor Hall is a giveaway machine right now, Schultz has proven that although he has some nice offensive skills he is oblivious in his own end, and the goaltending has been really bad. It's not just one position, there's issues everywhere.
So yeah, upgrading the goaltending will help, but it's like putting a band-aid over a gunshot wound.......it's not going to hurt, but it's not going to help much, either.
It's the goalies, defense and overall team defense that need help. Even though the goaltending has been bad, it seems like a bit of a scapegoat at the same time.
