Anybody know the best place to get ammo online? I swear I've looked everywhere, but I can't find 1 3/4" shotgun slugs. Grabbed some birdshot in that size shell, but I really want some slugs. Tons available in the USA, but I'm assuming you can't order from there.

G4c is usually a good bet. Surprisingly, Canadian Tire can be decent for shotgun ammo too

Look up Ammo Robbin, has saved me thousands.

Checked out everywhere everyone mentioned and CT came through on some 1 3/4" buckshot, so thank you for the suggestion. Slugs seem impossible to find in that size, which is fine. Prior to going to Canadian Tire today, though, I could only find bird shot so I'm very happy.
I copied BlackArcher and got the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, which doesn't have a stock. It's basically the size of a pirate gun so I didn't want to shoot full sized shells out of it. These 1 3/4" buckshot shells should be perfect.

Yeah it's definitely far from the first place I think of when it comes to buying, well, anything ever. But CT has surprised me
I got my PAL a couple of months ago. Haven't purchased a firearm as of yet, but learning to shoot is higher on my priority list than it used to be.
Don’t wait too long. If the libs get re-elected everything will be banned before you know it.

So I received a letter from the RCMP last week and apparently one of my previously legal rifles is now prohibited. It somehow managed to transform itself from a legal hunting rifle that's been in our family for 50+years to an assault style weapon all while sitting in my basement, not used in the past 20 years. Anyhow I now have one year to become 'compliant' whatever that means. Presumably since I no longer can sell the gun as it is now prohibited I have no choice but to surrender it?
I need to look but I'm assuming it is the clip that has now made the gun a prohibited firearm. If that is the case can I simply surrender the clip? Doubtful but worth asking, I really hate to have to surrender the rifle as it has a lot of sentimental value to me. Lot's of good memories hunting with my dad when I was a kid.

I don't think the rcmp knows you have a now prohibited rifle. I believe that letter went out to every licenced gun owner. Does it say you 'may' be in possession of a newly prohibited firearm? Not telling you what to do but most have filed the letter appropriately. But, if you choose to keep the rifle you will be breaking the law. Could always say it was lost in a tragic boating accident at the bottom of lake minnewanka.
Edit. Unless the gun was previously a restricted firearm, in which case they do know that you own it and you would have had to have a restricted pal to be able to legally possess it prior to it becoming prohibited.

Reason: Update
I shouldn't have said keeping the ammo and firearm separate was a challenge (duh), more so that having them in locked containers/rooms that are truly impenetrable isn't realistic if someone really really wants to get in. Hence the danger of having them in the first place.
Handguns are a pain in the ass in general to have, keep compliant and acquire in general. I went into both courses not knowing much at all about the rules and regulations, and came out of thinking that handguns are off the table if I ever wanted to get a firearm. Much more of a pain in the ass than an unrestricted firearm.
Bringing a conversation Huntingwhale and I were having in a thread that didn't deserve to have its attention split.
Yeah, with all the rules around restricted right now I didn't bother getting that license since it's effectively useless right now for newbies like us since you can't buy any.
The hack, IMO, if you want a smaller firearm is the Mossberg 590s Shockwave shotgun. You can load it with 1 3/4" shells. It's super small. I don't get how it's legal - like...there are American states where it isn't legal and they're jealous of US for being able to go to Canadian Tire and walk out with it five minutes later. I love mine...super fun to shoot and those small shells don't break your arms. Super fun and not totally far off a bunch of lesser weapons that we aren't allowed to own.
Interesting, never knew about that one. I left the course under the impression that a handgun is pretty useless to get, with so a many rules and regulations tied to it and how you apparently get flagged in the system once your acquire one. If anything, a shotgun seems the way to go. Still on the fence about it all though. A mixture of curiosity, wanting to be educated on them (which both courses did a great job doing), protection in case god-know-what happens, and I ever want to get into hunting.
I've never popped into this thread before, so it will be an interesting read.
