Adrian Dater reporting the Avalanche will protect Varlamov in the expansion draft leaving Calvin Pickard exposed.
http://bsndenver.com/bsn-exclusive-a...pansion-draft/
Would be an opportunity to get in on a good young goaltender if true.

Pickard is the guy who I thought Treliving would be on last year after being part of the team that selected him for the world championships.
Elliott/Pickard would be a great tandem, though I don't know what assets Colorado would want for him.

Probably not going to cost much, especially if Colorado thinks they'll lose him for nothing to Vegas.
EDIT: Maybe you can even trade them something as simple as Rittich, straight across. They get a young goalie with upside who just had a great year in the AHL, and he's exempt from the expansion draft.
Going to be interesting to see how some of the trades break down one the playoffs are over.

Great idea, I like but the Avs would still need a goalie who qualifies for the expansion draft as well. I don't know if they have one.

I think you work a deal out with Vegas if you want him. They use the expansion pick on him and then you trade with Vegas.

Report out of Buffalo that Eichel won't re-sign with the sabres if Bylsma remain coach
http://www.tsn.ca/report-eichel-won-...coach-1.728316
Eichel has one more year on his ELC for next season, but he is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st.

Wow.
Obvious answer is to fire Bylsma, but then you are basically giving your core players carte blanche.
They should trade him to Calgary methinks. Cheap too. Send a clear message that dissent won't be tolerated.

Bowman promising changes after Blackhawks first-round exit
Quote:
Coach Joel Quenneville will be back next season. Everything else is on the table for the Chicago Blackhawks.
General manager Stan Bowman is promising changes after Chicago was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. The Blackhawks, who won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015, were swept by Nashville this time around, managing just three goals in 13 periods.
A frustrated Bowman called the result "unacceptable" on Saturday. He says Quenneville will be back but stopped short of guaranteeing pretty much anything else for next season.

Cap situation for next season..
CapFriendly @CapFriendly
Looking ahead: with a projected overage of $3.558M, the #Blackhawks are currently $820K over $73M for 2017-18 with 20 players under contract.

If that doesn't work, you have to think they will look at moving one of Seabrook or Crawford and IMO their defense can't really afford to lose one of the big 3. Or they will look into trading Hossa despite the potential recapture penalties down the road?

I don't think the Hawks should panic, and I doubt Bowman does. They were a top team again over 82 games and ran into a ridiculously hot goalie.
.976 save % and a 0.70 GAA?
Haha
Also, every team looking for a coach right now just cursed with that news.

I doubt he will panic, I do think he needs to find a way to add depth to the organization again. I think moving Crawford and re-signing Darling might be their smarted move because it doesn't further hurt the defensive depth and moving Kruger's salary alone might not be enough to allow them to actually do anything.

No, although he's maybe the best defenseman. Also, wrong thread.

Best d man...maybe. But Brent Burns has something to say about that.
Best player is still Crosby despite Edmonton and their media fluffing and felalting McJesus's existence every second minute.

He'd be a perfect fit right now IMO but he's signed until he's 39 at almost $7 million per. I'd take him if they retained anout a million..

Oilers won't be able to take on his salary without moving Eberle or RNH and the Hawks will likely need a defenseman coming back in the deal.

Blackhawks are the worst team contract-wise and there's nothing they can do about it for many years. I guess that's the price of 3 cups. There's no way they can part with Seabrook. He's a shell of the defenseman he once was, and I don't even know if they can part with Hossa.

Habs fans are fed up with Galchenyuk
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...213889&page=38
How would you feel about acquiring him? Pure skill. 6'2 210 lbs, same age as Monahan, has scored 30 goals before and averaged 54 points over the last three seasons.
Don't really know if we have the assets to go in that direction though.
