But this guy hasn't been sub 93% at any level since he was in the OHL. Even there he was 92%+. In his last 96 games (AHL and NHL), he's at around 93.5%. He's been "hot" consistently for years now.
If Dubois and Tkachuk were both gone at 6, I'd heavily consider it. But I might be out to lunch as well.
I think I might agree with this. Had to think about it and I'm just not sold on anyone past the top 5 right now on a Monahan or Bennett level. I think if Dubois and Tkachuck were gone I do this deal.
I think the Flames need another elite forward to compete for the Stanley Cup. I don't think we will be able to acquire one any time soon outside of just the draft.
I think we need a goalie to compete too, but I don't think we need to use a (very high)draft pick to find a good one.
2016 6th overall pick for Matt Murray: good, bad or am I on crack?
If they are going to use the pick on one of the defenseman I'm all for using the pick to trade fo Murray but that ship has sailed. The Penguins are not going to part with this kid at any cost as he's the best young goaltender to come around since Price.
The reason I ask, is he's 21(?) years old, which is well before his prime, and he already looks like a pro out there. In addition, two full rounds of playoff hockey is a ton of invaluable experience he already has under his belt. I really think this guy's going to be ridiculous in a few years.
It should also be mentioned how difficult it is to get a good, NHL-ready goalie in the draft.

Yeah, this is my thinking. If I'm Pittsburgh, no way am I trading Murray for the #6 pick.

I guess, but I would wager Ward was probably worth a top 5 pick in 2006.
Who knows what will happen but I think Murray is special. I feel it in my bones lol.
Seriously though, I think we're watching a great goalie bust out before our very eyes. It's pretty cool to see. I don't know if Pitts would even trade him for 6 OA. If I was Rutherford, I would have serious reservations about that.

Matt Murray for #6 is a bit rich for my blood. And no I didn't bring up Cam Ward under the context of not wanting it. I perhaps misunderstood what the argument was when winning the Conn Smythe was brought up. Was he winning the Smythe with Pittsburgh making his value the #6 pick or was he winning the Smythe with the Flames?
I took it as he would win it with Pittsburgh and the Flames would give them #6 for him. And I brought up Cam Ward because a lot of folks lost interest in him years and years ago while he's been helping the suckage in CAR since.
In the end, I don't believe there's enough any team could offer PITT for Murray to convince them to let him go. I'm at the point now that the Pens would rather give Fleury away for nothing than let Matt Murray play for another team.
Yup. Is he Patrick Roy or Steve Penney? We won't know until next season. Until then I wouldn't trade a top six pick for an unproven goaltender.
That's the risk you take. If he's Pat Roy next year, we don't have a chance at ever getting him.
Besides, Logan Brown... is he Colborne or Thornton?
Dubois... is he Connolly or Kopitar?
Tkachuk... is he Winnik or Steen?
Maybe those aren't the best examples of low end/high end but it was the best I could come up with in one minute, hopefully you get the point.
Draft picks, especially high ones, are really overrated but also really important. It's almost impossible to talk about trading them. Murray is just as much of a risk as whoever we will pick at 6. Actually I'd argue he's less of one and 6 OA wouldn't be enough for that reason.

I would argue that an elite goaltender is more likely to help us compete for a Stanley cup than another elite forward would. Of course, anyone we pick at 6 has a chance of not turning into an elite forward. Just as Matt Murray has a chance of not maintaining his elite level of play.
Yes, if Murray continues to lead the Penguins through the playoffs, they won't be likely to trade him. But Jim Rutherford has made some silly decisions in the past, so there's always a chance that he could make another one. It would take a ton of balls for Treliving to trade the 6th pick away for a young goaltender (even if the trade does make sense). This whole idea is a bit of a stretch in reality, and is not likely to happen.
The Flames are probably more likely to take the conservative approach by acquiring Anderssen or signing Reimer. Hopefully Dallas picks up there play so that we can have another trading chip (their first rounder) at the draft.

The wild card in all of it is the expansion draft though.
If the Pens can't move Fleury prior to any expansion draft, then they will have to protect him and leave Murray exposed for the draft.
If I'm Fleury, and I don't want to be traded, I just tell my agent to put all teams that need a goalie the most on my no-trade list and let my NMC do the rest of the work.
Damn.... that is a nice looking highlight reel and I enjoy the audio commentary too. Excellent video. I have basically zero hope that he is going to slip to #6. Dubois looks like a stud though.
