Pretty disgusting that Pierre and a bunch of other "tough on crime, but not this crime" conservatives are preemptively using this to rile up their base. Not surprised, of course. Convoy Party of Canada indeed.

This is another reason why the "unite the right" movement has failed everyone. Way too much air being taken up by social conservatives and Maple MAGA types, and they keep pulling farther to the right. The parties didn't merge, they were taken over by the reformers.

Exactly. In a poll from September 2022, over 60% of Albertans disagreed with the convoy movement and their methods. In the most conservative province in the country.

Poilievre knows that his chances of recapturing the center are almost certainly gone with Carney looking like the kind of Captain Pragmatism so many have wanted. So lean into those crazies and when Pierre does get ousted his transition onto the lucrative grift tit is seamless. Just the state of modern politics, moderating in the hopes of winning enough votes in the middle is not a guarantee, staying hard right and making the grift bucks is basically a license to steal. Easy choice for the morally bankrupt.
