I dont agree with this comment, im at work and dont care enough to dig up insider comments but I have seen within the last week reports of teams saying they dont need retention on Kadri.

What are you basing this claim on exactly? Sorry I know its lame for me to say "prove it" without putting the work in myself, just curious for sake of discussion

Why not at least wait until the trade deadline now that it’s less than 2 days away? It’s fine to have opinions and speculate on things, but does it really help to be so emotionally invested and debate things that are based on speculation and rumours, and may never happen?

This was you 3 days ago…

Things change a lot in a short time. Don’t let what Dreger or others say completely shape your opinions or stress you out. The reality of the situation will be here soon.

Well 37 years is still pretty long if you want to start it from the day after the won the Stanley Cup.

I'm turning 38 in a month.

I've seen this franchise make it past the 2nd round once in my living memory, and it was as a 6 seed that went on a magical playoff run.

I've never seen them establish themselves as a consistent contender that has a chance to win year after year. The only time in this organizations history that they've been able to do that is in that stretch from 1985-1991 where they made 2 cup finals, and won 3 division titles.

And even then our biggest rival won 3 Stanley Cups in that same time period.

I too young to remember those days or wasn't born yet, but I'd wager that even in those seasons there wasn't much joy outside of 1989 because even though the Flames were good, the Oilers were better and were winning multiple cups.

I get it's a different era, different ownership groups, different GMs, but the reality is this organization as a whole has not earned the benefit of the doubt in terms of their approach to building a winner here, especially not in the last 32 years which is the time this current ownership group has owned the team.

Is that fair to Craig Conroy and what he's trying to do here? No not really because he deserves credit for what he's done so far and what it appears he's trying to do (build the right way via the draft and by being patient)

But do I get why people are skeptical of this organizations decisions...100%

Big Nich! A flame!?

Called it yesterday:

Colton, Nichushkin, Brindley 27 1st for Coleman and Kadr
That's pretty much dollar in and dollar out

Bonus points for no retention and flip Nich or use it on a surprise trade.

I love it if its the cap dump in lieu of retention. Nuke's contract has one more year left than Kadri's.

That would have to be a trade and flip scenario? Can't see Nichuskhin wanting to be in Calgary. I could see a number of contenders wanting to take him off our hands though. Kadri for Nichushkin (no retention), then Nichushkin to whoever with retention for the future assets?

Big fan of Nichuskin. Would love to see him in a Flames jersey, but I wonder if he'd ending up sulking here. Hard going from a contender to the dregs.

It’d be Nichuskin ++ one would have to assume, given the history and his wildcard nature.

Nichushkin has a 12 team NTC, and I'd assume Calgary is on it.

Although it's a Russian friendly team, so maybe that could get him to waive.

Kadri (no retention) for Nichushkin + 2027 1st? Nichushkin isn't a cap dump, so I'm not sure Conroy can get much more.

His issue was usage. There's be no illusions here how he would be used.
